Sat in the upstairs bar. Great service, good drinks, and good food, but pricey. The calamari salad portion is decent. The fish and chips are much smaller than anticipated. More like medium size fish sticks, really. The $4 cup of soup comes in a tiny 1.5" "bowl". If you change your side instead of chips, it comes in the same tiny bowl. It's like a large thimble the chocolate mousse was good!

I'd probably come back if in the neighborhood.

Terrible DISAPPOINTMENT. Ordered the iceberg lettuce appetizer ($16) Asked for no onion. It came with onion. The size was so small it was insulting. Iceberg lettuce is not that high cost an item wholesale. Poor wine list, but ordered a bottle of wine. It was bad.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. We haven't been to Ed's since it opened a decade ago. Then it was so busy nobody could get a reservation or be served. I used Yogi Berra's line "it's so busy nobody goes there". Last night the place was 25% filled, depressing and as most people on Google & Tripadvisor say, the service is terrible. Truth is that the folks who play the part of waiter here usually play the part of busboy in similar restaurants. What a disappointment. Food is fine. I had the 3 chowder combination as an appetizer and they were just ok. I had the salmon as an entree and it was terrificbut we'll not be back.

Restaurants like this should have someone reading the Tripadvisor, Google, Yelp writings to know what the world thinks about them. My guess is that ED is no longer here as he was a star chef and wouldn't allow his name to be so abused. My sense is that he should ask to have his name removed.unless nobody remembers who he is

I was just lectured yelled at by two staff members as I tried to make arrangements for my upcoming birthday celebration because one of my people has a shellfish allergy. It broke my heart. I had such a wonderful time at my graduation celebration where the staff couldn't have been kinder or more accommodating. Because of this, I wanted to return to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately, now the staff is unpleasant and offered little to no accommodations for anything, including shellfish allergies. You'd think this was a cafeteria with their 'take it or leave it' attitude. I'm leaving it.

The service I received at this resturant was absolutely disgusting and rude. The food was bland and the serving sizes were miniscule.
I will never return to this restaurant, and never refer anyone to visit this terrible place.
Not worth even a passing glance.

From a kid's perspective:
This restaurant is so good! Me and my parents love it. The grilled cheese is so good! Also the green beans are off the hook!! For my parents appetizers they got three different types of soup! They could not believe how good it was. They got their real food and couldn't speak it was so good and kept going in for my green beans.( It was hard to get them away from my delicious green beans.) It is totally worth your time!!!!😂😂 If my parents take me somewhere to eat I'll suggest Ed's!!!!!!!!😂😂

One word - amazing. They found us a table on New Year's Eve (2 adults and 3 kids!). The prices were reasonable. The general manager was beyond friendly. The staff was super nice. The food was extremely good. I will break my New York rule and come back again for sure!

Ed's is part of our regular restaurant repertoire. We are never disappointed, the food is great but we keep going back because of the people! Gracious fun service from a great team that always are happy to make our meals special. Favorite dishes are the scallop ravioli, salmon tartare, the skate and their burger is great too.
Hotel management need to seriously update and hello, clean their restrooms, but that is not under Ed's control!

Atmosphere is really nice, it has a small quaint bar. Food is great and the clam chowder is amazing. Although some of the staff could have given a better service. Also very happy that they serve breakfast lunch and dinner here. I highly recommend this place if your staying at the Empire hotel or catching any of the events at Lincoln Center.

Been to this seafood restaurant a few times and have always enjoyed the food. Their brunch/lunch prix fixe menu is both good quality and value.

The crispy calamari and clam chowder starters are always nice, but the last time I went I decided to go for the salmon & avocado mousse. It was phenomenal, just a shame I don't see that on the normal menu.

For the main I always go for the seared skate wing on a pile of mash potato and surrounded by a cream sauce. I don't tend to go for fish dishes at restaurants very often but this one I'd go for any time. For red meat lovers the burger they do is also very good.

The desserts are fine, the lemon meringue is the one I tend to go for since I'm quite partial to them.

The restaurant is situated in the Empire Hotel and for whatever reason it never seems to get crowded. Which is a shame given how good the food is. They did briefly change into a non-seafood restaurant but thankfully reverted back to the same Ed's that we know and love. Let's hope that doesn't happen again.

Another thing I like are the bread's that they do, especially the cheesy/scone type bread they serve.

The restaurant is quite big with a bar area as well as a much larger seating area with a large number of comfy banquette areas.
