Let's start with the positives. The location cannot be beat! Lex/51st right off the subway. Very close to everything. The front desk staff is incredibly friendly, nice, helpful and accommodating. The check in was a breeze. This is where it starts to go down hill. If you have Hilton gold or diamond status, you will get a breakfast voucher and another for two free waters that you can pick up at the bar. Well, upon presenting the voucher for water at the bar, the bar tender will give you a dirty look (like you just ruined his day) and begrudgingly slide two waters toward you across the bar and walk away. So pleasant.
Getting the room, it's not the nicest. They tried to update it at some point but you can still see the age if the hotel. Lipstick on a pig. My shower didn't drain well so I was standing in a pool of dirty water when I was done which I'm not sure how because if the anemic shower head that drizzled out water. (I loathe Speakman shower heads that Hilton seems devout to but this one was especially decrepit) So many details missed, I found hairs that weren't mine, two lotions but no conditioner and the room just doesn't feel clean Light switches are yellowed from years of constant use and no cleaning, doors are banged up, counters chipped, etc I'm in the middle of a business trip lasting several weeks and needed to do some laundry. The laundry bag was torn, no sheet to check off what's inside.
Views from the back of the hotel are nonexistent. Oh and let's talk climate control. I could not get the heat to turn off without unplugging the whole thing so the only way to cool the room in winter is to crack a window.
Location great! Price decent, hotel mediocre.

Excellent location, you can move everywhere you want really easy! Rooms are kind of small but their fee is also small so no complains about that. There's no restaurant there, only a bar, so don't expect a lot of food options either, good thing is that you can buy a lot of things outside

    We didn’t hate it..
Pros: The location is amazing. The cost was amazing. The porter Reggie was hands down the coolest human we’ve ever met. The staff at the front were sweet and accommodating. Every single person we spoke to on staff was helpful and friendly.
Cons: The beds were uncomfortable. There wasn’t a vending machine. The room was SO dark - the entrance was lit but otherwise it was too dark in the room part. If there were a floor lamp in the corner, it would be perfect. For such a small room, it feels like an easy fix.

No working vending machines, random people calling our room due to crossed phone lines, super crowded elevators, and no fridge in the room. I'm a diamond member 9 straight years and spend a lot of time in Hilton Hotel rooms, this was one of the worst experiences I have had. That being said, the bellman were nice and the location was perfect.

The DoubleTree is not good but not necessarily bad hotel.
Located in a comfortable spot on 6 train and just a 300m (1000 feet) walk to the E/M trains. It is also good distance to Central/Bryant park.
The rooms are old fashioned and some element may be broken (but working). We expiriance some noise from corridor and next rooms - but not somthing worth complaining about to the front desk.
The staff were nice, but it was the first time I heard of a 2$ (for bag) baggage charge (for leaving it there for couple of hours after checkout).

Clean, comfortable room. Busy and bustling. Friendly staff. Good location. Weird smell throughout first floor. Common spaces a bit cramped. Good for an overnight business trip, but many of the Hilton properties nearby are nicer with similar rates.

The hotel is conveniently located. There are two metro station very nearby. The grand central is on a walking distance. The rooms itself are not so premium and felt overpriced. They do not provide even a microwave oven or coffee maker. I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel which did not provide a coffee maker. The buffet breakfast too is nothing premium.

Very nice hotel. Got upgraded to a suite from a two double bed room. Pull out couch was a little noisy and there weren't covers or pillows in the room for use as a bed. Overall a good experience. Nice staff and clean hotel.

Fantastic staff!!! They treated us like royalty. It was my husband's birthday and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Everyone from Timothy and all the other doormen to all the kitchen staff such as Maria the host as well as Vicki and all the others at the front desk we cannot thank you all enough for making our stay most memorable and enjoyable😀 Excellent location was central and very easy to get around with the subway steps away. We would recommend this hotel to everyone and surely would not hesitate to come again ourselves from Vancouver Canada.

Very good customer service. Had issues with booking through a third party but front service representatives assisted and tried to make the stay better. Location is great because there are multiple shops and restaurants around the area. 24 hour convenience stores also less than a block away. The room was a double queen, bed is comfortable. They also give you fresh cookies when you first come in.

I left a Burberry watch at the hotel and have called 4 times in two weeks and left voice mails with 1) lost and found, 2) housekeeping, 3) housekeeping manager. Front desk has also said they emailed the housekeeping manager. Nothing. No one outside of housekeeping seems to have access to the lost and found. Which is an obviously bad process.

Housekeeping is the unresponsive department. The excuses have been 1) they are in a 1-hour meeting and will call you back and 2) they are gone for the day.

A 3-start a hotel can get in touch with housekeeping in 1 day. For a 4-start hotel to have these problems is ridiculous.

While I stayed there, the staff were nice and visibly disorganized.

Expected more. My room was hot and the thermostat didn't seem to do anything. Called for maintenance and they said a/c for the building was off and suggested I open a window. Restaurant hostess was just rude. I suggest you just walk around the corner for a much better dining experience at a way better price. Cookies were good.

Stayed for three days. The service was terrible. The room had no temperature control. When we checked out they said we were not allowed to take a luggage cart upstairs but also there was no bell hops to help so you are on your own. They would not get our car until we waited in a very very long list e to get a print out of the charges. No other way to print the receipt that showed we paid for the over priced parking. Would maybe stay again as it was less than $100 per night via Groupon. If you are looking for a cheap room and cheap amenities and no service. This works for that. It is nicely located for mid town activities.

Average place. Rather scruffy and not 4-star in appearance. Disappointing service - after I checked out and was several blocks away I realized I left some things in my room. I called the hotel and asked them to get the items and hold them for me to pick up when I returned four hours later. The woman on the phone promised me she would. When I came back this hadn't been done and the staff didn't seem to know what to do. They asked me to wait a half hour - for the maids shift to end. But I had a train to catch and couldn't stay. I never received a follow up survey, and there's no information on the property's web site for how to register a complaint. So I'm putting it here.
