We visited this location yesterday to celebrate my wife’s birthday with a special dinner. We arrived 40minutes before the kitchen closes. I had called before hand to make sure this was okay, and we were told it was. Upon arrival we were received by a rude hostess who asked as to sit at the bar instead of a table, and I quote “ you might not get get the best service if you sit at a table.” Just not the first thing you want to hear when you walk into a great restaurant with top dining prices.

We still decided sit at a table, and 10 minutes later we saw the hostess walk out of work, which left us thinking that was a clear attempt to push us away so she could leave earlier. At the table we were welcomed by a nice waitress who attended all of our needs and went the extra mile to notice it was a special occasion. She wished us Happy Birthday and placed a candlelight in our dessert. The food was great and we were really satisfied with the service we received except for the one experience when we first walked in to the restaurant.

Nice lunch offerings. Can get busy with business crowd, so reservations might be a good idea for lunch. Recommend the house made gnocchi.

It was a very solid meal, though I was expecting more. The experience began with the homemade bread that was served at our table. Very nice and delicate in feel and texture, but it was burned and inedible the first time around. Second try was much better.

Appetizers: The calamari was good, but more greasy than I am used to. The crabcake was almost five star, but loses a fraction of a star because of the heavy amount of mustard sauce on the bottom of the dish. The mustard sauce overwhelmed the final bite. The spring rolls sampler had no business being on this menu - the tastes varied from strange to decent, but the entire dish, while presented nicely, felt like it didn't match the look and feel of an upscale Italian steakhouse. That's the dish I expect to get at Hard Rock Cafe outside Yankee Stadium before a ballgame.

Main dish: I ordered the yellow fin tuna (rare) and my friend ordered the filet (medium rare). Both dishes were prepared accurately, according to our order, which is the good part. Plating, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. Look at the photo. Small tuna filet, served on a large plate, with only two lemon wedges on the plate. It looked very empty and was not very appetizing. My friend's dish was presented in a similar way. I get it - leave room for the a la carte sides, but the presentation seemed very sloppy - basically, the appearance was meat thrown onto the center of a warm dish.

Dessert: My friend and I shared the sorbet. It was solid but unremarkable.

Overall: Did I enjoy the meal? Yes. That being said, I expected more for the price point and the reputation. With all of the great places in Boston, I would probably not return on my next visit.

The steaks are supposedly the best but we didn’t even order any steaks and the food was phenomenal. Highly recommend the lobster risotto

Great meatball app, filet, molten chocolate desert. Bar staff was helpful and attentive. The bourbon cocktail with rosemary was just okay, but the red blend from Sonoma was great. Oh the popover was a nice surprise.

One of the best places for authentic Italian pizza, steak, and pastas in Boston. The Gnocchi is always freshly made with creamy texture. The Short rib is braised well too. Also recommend the oyster BLT for those who think you cannot eat oyster: it's got the sweetness and mineral flavor without being too fishy. Don't be fooled by the deco. It's actually a reasonable place pricewise.

We were seated at the bar without being asked for a preference. It took 15min for our server to come to us and take the order. After that it took 1hr for them to bring out the dishes. The bread was amazing and the food was ok.

Excellent food and very lively. The place was packed on a weeknight and noise level was high. If you're looking for a hip place with lots of action you found it.

I had an excellent experience here.

We came right as it had opened at 11:30AM and were seated by the window as requested.

Our martini was excellent! Great gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle oil. Soft, flavorful.

I had the aged rib-eye. The sauce that came with it and the sweet caramelized onions really elevated the flavors.

Brian, our waiter was was attentive and gave good recommendations.

We'll be back next time we hit boston.

A special thank you to the maître d' who stopped by a few times and made us feel welcome.

Food and service at the Mistral was excellent if you stick with the basics. The restaurant decor was a mix of modern and old Boston and the mood lighting perfect for the setting.
