Best and amazing hike, and the flat rock trail is steep and it feels amazing once you reach the top with lot of wind. Park ranger is very helpful person.

Traveled here from Pittsburgh to hike the Flat Rock Trail and it was everything we expected. The hike is medium to hard but not impossible The Climb about 1,600 ft up and 2.6 miles but the view is well worth the challenge. Pack a lunch eat on the Flat Rock enjoy The View there may others views like this United States but this is certainly one of the best I've ever seen

Nice State Park! Great hiking trails. The restroom facility upgrades that are planned for 2018 for the reopening in 2019 will be a welcome addition. The pit toilets, no showers, and occasional late night logging truck blasting through the valley are the only drawbacks. Great for picnics & swimming in the lake. Nice playground for the kids, plus a sand volleyball court. A fair amount of room for pickup sports, frisbee, etc. I haven't had any luck fishing in the lake here - maybe that will improve now that they have refilled it.

This was a decent place to camp for the weekend. The tent site was in the shade, but sort of close to others, although they do have walk in sites that are farther away. There was no place to wash dishes which might not matter for RV campers but it was a slight inconvenience for us. The flat Rock hike was really cool and it's literally steps from the camping spots.

I can't speak for the whole park, but based alone on the Flat Rock hike I'm rating 5 years. Fantastic, fun, and beautiful hike. I try to take my dog a few times a year. The park has plenty of parking and seems well kept.

Colonel Denning State Park has a wonderful and well maintained trail that leads to Flat Rock overlook as well as a series of other linked trails. The difficultly level is moderate to difficult due to a steep and largely rocky incline. The trail is 2.5 miles leading to the scenic overlook. Round trip the hike is approx. 5 miles and took us about 2.5 hrs to complete at an average pace. If this is your first visit study a map before you go or grab one at the information sign just before the entrance to the trail. Trail starts across the bridge from the educational center.

Camped overnight with my wife and dog. Great trails for pets, and lovely camping space. If you need firewood and they don't have any, they have directions to a nearby farm with a barn full of dry wood.

Had a nice hike on the Flat Rock Trail last weekend. Beautiful view at the top. Saw lots of campers with people enjoying their time at the park.

Camping

Went camping with several young children in April. It is a small and quiet campground with wooded areas, a small lake and a small playground. It was a pleasant experience, however, my only complaint would be about the bathrooms. None of the bathrooms had running water, which means no showers or hand washing. The bathrooms stink since you are just dedicating in a glorified hole. Also there is no water at the camp sites.

The park looked nice with a small waterfall at the lake, however, the lake was not open for swimming.

The flat rock trail and scenic over look was nice and well worth the hike. Keep in mind that the 2.5 mile hike is almost all up hill and takes over an hour to make it up.

I've camped at a few other state parks and enjoyed them a bit more than Colonel Denning. I will likely not return for camping unless the bathrooms are renovated with running water and showers.
