Make sure you get good directions. We enjoyed our tubing ride despite the day being a little cool and the river being a little low. But they told us to go under three bridges and remember to keep left when we got out. It turned out you were supposed to go a ways past the third bridge to where there's a rope in the river and then get out on the right before veering on the left hand path. We spent 30 minutes trying to figure out what to do before another tuber who had done it before came along. Not a great ending to an otherwise fun trip. Also, highly recommend tying tubes together if you're going with a group.
Bring sandals or flip flops that can get wet as you bring your shoes with you on the river and your and your shoes will definitely get wet!
You ride a bus from the parking lot to the tube area, walk down some older stairs right to shore. The trip on the river is really fun but you have to watch how you're sitting because many rocks reach the surface or just below it. At the end of the section you paddle with your hands off to the right before you reach a rope they have tied across the river. The point you exit from the water is about a 500ft walk across gravel back to the parking lot.
Overall it's a fun experience on the but you'll have to change in your car when you're done because they have no changing/bathroom. Would definitely do again now that I know how to prepare
Wasn't super impressed pretty rough location / set up and low water .. very dirty and you park in a very sketchy place and walk back in a salvage yard/ scrap area. Not really worth the money , better to take your own tubes and do your own thing I would think. The staff was kind of not very friendly or helpful either , not horrible though
We drive 2 hours to have a family day tubing big mistake! !!!!! They have no rest rooms , no area to change your way clothes ( unless you go to sheets across the street ) the steps down towards the river are a little rough if you are carring 2 tubs ( I have an 8 yr old ) my son enjoy the ride but at the end you come to a dandy area and you have to climb a dirt till with your tubs , my family help the older ladies because they were struggling. Once we climb the small hill there was no sign or arrow that states where to go. Since we drive 2 hr I wanted to changed and had to use my car doors and pretty much moon everyone as I got dressed. If I was local I might of enjoyed it but again I drove 2 hrs to do a family day and it was not worth it. I do not suggest older people doing this unless your in really good health.
What a fun time. The river was high so I got the full tour. There are small patches of choppy water throughout which keep things interesting. You definitely will get wet on this ride. Ask for the purple tube it's worth the extra 5 bucks.
Fun in the sun. This is an amazing easy to spend a summer day!
We had a great time. Ages 5, 7, 36, 37. The trip was shorter because of the low water and we could have ridden as many times as we wanted because of this. The people were great. The only bad part of the trip was the takeout back at Coal Tubin bridge. The takeout was messy with trash and mud. There was also a pretty rotten smell possibly from the trash, but smelled a bit like the area had been used as a bathroom. It didn't ruin the trip but it was not a pleasant ending.
Really fun tubing with plenty of places to stop for food or swimming along the route. Staff is nice and you have a ton of tube options for all your needs.
Had a wonderful girls weekend at Coal River Tubing. When we first got there we felt uncomfortable because the guy checking us in didn't explain anything and was very rude. Thank god for the older gentleman who made up for everything. We had so much fun on the water. Will defiantly be back.
way too expensive 15$ per person. when i was there with my family we needed ropes to attach our tubes together , but they didn't have anymore so they gave us bungee cords. the bungee cords fell off a ton. i fell out of the tube and the current pushed me so the rocks at the bottom would my legs. Now i have bruises all over my leg.
Good for when you want to get hurt.
