Morgantown is lovely place with rich history, and Hotel Morgan a gem. The lobby interior boasts walls with chunky woodwork and ceilings decked with chandeliers. The host was friendly and helpful. Our room was very roomy and the bed comfortable. The only downside to our stay was breakfast the next day. In fairness we came down to the mezzanine with about 10 minutes left of the breakfast serving time. We had just started choosing our items when the breakfast attendant asked us to move to tables in the dimly lit lobby outside the breakfast area. We accommodated her request, even though there was 5 minutes left until breakfast was over. We just thought it was bad form on her part. Other than that, it was a great place to stay.
This was a very disappointing visit. Friday night there was loud music and partying for hours. By 12:45 I had enough. I have to say they addressed the issue quickly. I had a 6 hr drive and desperately needed sleep. Then at 4:25 am someone returned from their night of partying and was pounding on their door for about 10 minutes until someone finally let them in.
This was a busy weekend for WVU and there was only one elevator working.
This is one of the coolest hotels I've ever stayed at. Even the elevators had those old-fashioned operator kiosks, which obviously weren't in use but still there to showcase the history of the place. The furniture and decor were all indicative of a hotel with some serious age, but in a venerable sort of way. The lobby was so impressive with its glittering chandeliers and original furnishings.
The rooms were large enough to almost be considered suites, and the view of Morgantown WV was spectacular. Our room overlooked the river and gentle slope of the town as it began to rise up the surrounding mountains. This city almost looks like a Dutch valley town, and it's beautiful from the perspective our room offered. Just about every room is going to have a view because of this hotel's location, by the way.
Location is absolutely prime. Shops, bars, eateries and coffee houses are all within walking distance and there's no shortage of things to do or places to explore.
5/5, fantastic hotel.
I have stayed at this hotel several times. I have also learned on my last visit that JFK has stayed here as well. The hotel reminds me of something from the movies. As you walk in there is a bar located on the left and a gym awaiting your use on the right. The staff was very friendly and helpful during the check-in process. The hotel also has a laundry room located on the lower level. Wi-fi works through out the hotel which is great! There is also a restaurant located on the 8th floor of the hotel. The convenience of the location is also fantastic. There is plenty of shopping and food within walking distance. The room was very spacious- similar to a studio apartment, and the beds were very comfortable. I will try and stay here every time I come to Morgantown. Great place!
Elegant. The service was great. The roomsawe! They are huge suites . Have microwave & refrig. Living room area with couch. I will stay here again next year! Choices in restaurants in hotel and room service. In the center of town. Walk to anything. This was Don Knotts favorite hotel when he came back for visits!!!
The staff were very pleasant and knowledgeable about restaurants and bars in the area. The room was clean and comfortable. Only thing that I would suggest is a lighted sign, so you know you have arrived at the Clarion. We drove around the block 4 times until we realized where we were. I would def go back, and recommend this hotel. Last, I loved the historic look! :)
Kim Shelter is a client of ours who recently stayed at this property while on tour and performing in Morgantown. They were very happy to write how great the stay was! The room was perfect, clean and quiet. The location was excellent to downtown, and the restaurant was a great place to grab dinner before the gig. There was also a free breakfast before check out that was a perfect way to start the day!
Great experience, comfortable beds and a spacious room. Front desk staff and everyone else were perfect. Beautiful lobby, stepping back in time, wonderfully preserved. Great, free breakfast. Will be back again.
This was our first time staying at the Clarion Hotel Morgan and it was an awesome one. I typically like newer hotels because I have a very strong sensitivity to the smell of older buildings, this however wasn't a problem for me staying at this hotel. From the front desk service, to the housekeeping staff, to the wonderful hot breakfast that was served and included in the price of the room, everything was top notch. Our room was decorated beautifully and was very clean. We will definitely stay here again.
Beautiful rooftop setting, great service, delectable food. Make sure to have the cauliflower app and the salmon dinner entree!
This grand hotel is the best kept secret in the Morgantown area. Maybe you can't tell from the outside, but when you walk in, it's like being transported to another time, a bygone era of elegance I wish were still around. The woodwork in the lobby is the original from when the hotel was built in 1924the crystal chandeliers are breathtakingtake a peak into the grand ballroom and you will be astonished at the grandeur. It's simply gorgeous. After checking in with the warm, friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff, whom I thought were unparalleled anywhere in Morgantown, grab a cocktail at the lobby bar, or have dinner in the Montmarte restaurant, which is located on the 8th floor and has an outdoor deck, weather permitting. I recommend the salmon, it is exquisite. I can't think of another word for this foodie's experience there. Then- the room was spotlessly clean, warm and inviting, and fully equipped with coffee maker, fridge and microwave, and free wifi for your convenience. But what got me were those huge pillows, and the mattress on the bed was to die for. I wanted to get one just like it for my home! It was honestly the best sleep I had gotten in a long time! Also, don't miss the complimentary breakfast in the morning on the mezzanine level. It's a hot buffet-style full breakfast that includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage and bacon, apple pancakes, waffles, cold and hot cereals, bagelsanything you could possibly want. Parking is free in three downtown locations, and you're within walking distance to the West Virginia University campus, restaurants and bars galore, shopping, you name it. Grab a coffee, tea or hot chocolate at the cute coffee stand in the lobby on your way out. If you want a reasonably priced full service hotel, the Clarion Hotel Morgan shouldn't be a secret anymore! Come for all the amenities, but stay and come back for the great staff who will personally see to your every need, and the elegant old-world atmosphere!
LOVVVVVE this hotel.
Right in the heart of Morgantown. Walkable to everything cool in town. Great food in the hotel and walking distance.
Classic old school feel with modern day comfort.
Spent two days here and wish I could have spent more. Perfect hotel to stay at and rest between jumping out to explore Morgantown.
I once again had the pleasure of staying at the Clarion Hotel Morgan in Morgantown, WV. One of the best selling points to this place is the building itself. A bit of a throwback to classic American buildings. The first floor is a gorgeous, classic looking lobby. The first floor also offers a fantastic workout room and a full bar that looks like something out of a classic movie.
The rooms are huge and spacious. Very comfortable and welcoming. A couch and desk are set apart from the rest of the bedroom. The bathroom was clean and offered anything a guest would need. The breakfast they offered could not be beat. It just felt like I was eating a home cooked meal.
The surrounding neighborhood is also a great selling point for the hotel. The neighborhood has a history all its own. There are plenty of great, reasonably priced places to eat. Also, a variety of cool novelty shopping options (comic books, antiques, etc.) that can keep any shopper busy. Morgantown, WV. is great and the Clarion Hotel makes it all the better.
This hotel is a one of a kind experience.
First off, it is a historical landmark of Morgantown and they have kept up all it's quirky beauty. From the neon "Hotel Morgan" sign on the top of the hotel to the beautiful chandeliers in the lobby, this hotel is entirely unique. Everything down to the elevator has historical beauty. During our stay there was also a free performance for everyone staying in the hotel, it was a steel drum performance. This was the only time I have stayed in a hotel with that kind of fun experience offered. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is in the heart of downtown, around many great restaurants and shops. Attached to the hotel is a restaurant and bar as well.
Our room was spacious and had every amenity that we could need. A couch, fridge, microwave, coffee maker and hairdryer. The bathroom was clean and fresh. All of the doors are original and it gives an interesting feel to the whole room. The bed was comfortable, clean and had plenty of pillows to choose from.
They offered free breakfast with many different choices. The wifi was efficient and worked quickly. There are vending machines throughout the hotel. This is a quirky experience and for the traveler or adventurer, this is a must stay.
I travel across the country for my job and stay in all types of hotels. This is certainly one of the most unique and elegant hotels I've ever stayed in. As a sucker for history
and buildings that are a window into the past, this is an absolute thrill for me to stay here. The Clarion is a welcome break from the monotony of so many hotels that are carbon copies of each other. Spacious, welcoming and gorgeous, the beds are comfy, the couches are welcoming and situated right in front of the furniture and large televisions and the staff is friendly. Highly recommend!
Nice old Hotel with character. Clean room, friendly staff and close to so many amenities. We walked right across the street to a great dinner at the Iron Horse Tavern. Loved that the room had a couch and coffee table area as well as the 2 double beds. Very nice continental breakfast with lots of hot options including sausage gravy & biscuits, a crepe, bacon, sausage, waffles and scrambled eggs as well as fresh fruit and cereal and bread options. When we have to go to Morgantown for a medical visit this is where we will stay. Only a 13 minute drive to Ruby Memorial but we liked staying downtown closer to things to do.
What an amazing building, I was very impressed with the furnishings and the original woodwork in the lobby. The staircase was gorgeous and while I took the elevator, the original workings are still there to remind us of days gone by. Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast served was very filling and the wonderful woman who was in charge of seeing that one's needs were met was helpful and very friendly. I will definitely stay here again! The only negative about this hotel is that parking is a block away and you will have to walk (in the weather) to and from the hotel, small price to pay for all the other amenities!
This was the most wonderful stay that we have had in a while. We loved the historic hotel. The beautiful lobby and ball room were breathtaking. The room was large and comfy. There was an excellent view of downtown and it was in walking distance from a lot of fun bars, restaurants, stores, and coffee shops. We walked down to the river and even though the weather was chilly we really enjoyed exploring the community. The top floor restaurant and bar downstairs both had excellent selection and quality of food and drinks. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was well stocked and delicious. There was a faint smell of mold in the work out room because I think there was a leak or burst pipe recently and the computer room was missing computers? Other than that I loved everything about our stay.
Really cool old hotel located right in the heart of Morgantown. It's a beautiful scenic mountain college town and this hotel is about 100 years old. Very friendly staff, nice clean rooms and close enough within walking distance to plenty of amenities. There was really easy load in and out for our van and trailer, considering the hilly neighborhood. I would definitely recommend this hotel to business travelers or families.
We love this hotel. They have always Been so nice. Love the rooms and the history of it. It is a very beautiful building. Breakfast is also great. Love the rooftop restaurant. We will be staying here every time we come up to Morgantown while our daughter is WVU. Thank you all for the great hospitality. You all will have to let us see the old speak EZ downstairs next time.
