Called Chelsea Lumber this morning (1/12/2016) to get a price on a unit of 2x4x96". I needed them to have the KD-HT (Kiln Dried/Heat Treated) stamp for export. You would've thought I was speaking Chinese. The guy I was speaking with said he had no idea what that was. He asked the other two guys in the office (who he claimed had over 30+ years experience in the industry) and they also did not know what heat treated lumber was! He stated this with attitude in his voice too. Now I would expect this from maybe a Lowe's employee or Home Depot but a Lumber Yard!? So after I explained what it was he went on to say he did not know if the unit he had on hand was stamped or not. Okay fine, but then he said there were not any yard guys there yet (7:30 am) to check and it was just him and two other office guys "sitting around". Okay well how about you get off your lazy butts and go physically check! Granted it was snowing so I know how those desk jockeys don't want to get their Dockers wet.

This was my first attempt in dealing with Chelsea Lumber and had they known the bare minimum information about the product they're selling, or at least not been lazy and went and verified if the product they had on hand was stamped or not, we would've been a frequent repeat customer in the future. If I owned this company I would be furious at these three salesman, you have to wonder how much business they've let go in the past due to lack of knowledge of their product, and just flat out laziness.

After I got off the phone with Chelsea Lumber I called General Materials in Jackson. The staff at General Materials were very knowledgeable and knew exactly what I needed, they also verified the product they had on hand was KD-HT stamped. General Materials just earned a new repeat order customer.

Very disappointed. My wife and I drive an hour to Chelsea to get a quote on an outbuilding. We spent an hour with the guy writing up a quote sheet and at the end he says it will be a day or two. 11 days later and 3 phone calls never returned I finally talk to someone who says they can't do what we were after. I'm bummed I wasted an hour drive down, an hour with the sales guy drawing up a quote, and of course the 11 days We will not be returning to Chelsea lumber for our future needs.

Very helpful folks. They know their stuff. However, they lost a lot of my business just because they close at 3:30pm on Saturdays and are CLOSED on Sundays. What business closes before 5 on any day? They are definitely going to lose the weekend warrior market that lowes and home depot thrive on.
