I have had the great pleasure of working at Camp Matoaka for over 20 years. During that time I have witnessed many improvements in our facilities and programs. Jason and Leslie are fantastic people and put everything they have into giving campers and counselors the best summers year after year.
I have sent my daughter to camp Matoaka and she loved it. She made some great new friends which she is still in touch with. She is counting down the days to go back to camp. She loves the activities, especially the waterfront activities. They have staff that are from all over the world and they are so caring for the kids. My daughter loved her counselors.
My two daughters have been blessed during their time in Matoaka and I have no doubt they will continue to enjoy every summer they still have left. My oldest daughter has completed 2 summers and my youngest has just finished her first. Apart from learning skills and activities and meeting people from all over the world, they have learned a lot of independence and life skills. The counselors and staff are very attentive and caring, they create an atmosphere that allows for growth but yet is very safe and secure. It is noticeable that the owners love what they do and love the girls and that is why they do what they do. I would recommend to anyone looking for an amazing summer experience for their daughters to consider Camp Matoaka, you will not be disappointed.
Camp Matoaka has got to be the best place on Earth. I have spent every summer there since 2010, and just keep coming back for more. I genuinely believe Camp has made me a better version of myself. I never got to experience the camp as a child, but am fortunate enough to do it as a staff member. I watch these girls year after year grow, learn, explore. All getting to do so while in a safe and loving environment. I walked in as a stranger, but I left as family. The directors, the counselors, and the facilities are all top notch. The food is pretty great too! When you hear the term "Matoaka Magic", you may not get it at first. But I promise, it's very there and it is very real.
I sent my daughter to Camp Matoaka this past summer. She had an incredible experience. The staff were very caring and dedicated to providing her with a rewarding and memorable time. The activities and facilities are top-notch. The directors are warm and caring, and from what my daughter tells me, the food is great! I highly recommend Matoaka for any parent who wants their daughter to become the best version of herself!
I went to camp matoaka and I hated it the owners are jerks. They put my sister with 30 other girls in a bunk meant for 8 to 10 girls. We had to sign a contract saying if we bully anyone we would be kicked out of camp, I was bullied for over 3 years each year I went to camp they bullied we over the school year online. The owner Jason could care less and just had them call there parents. My older sister was so mad that these girls were so mean she stormed off to my bunk and told off my whole bunk. In the end I was punished for being bullied by being forced out of my bunk into another. This was the worst experience in my life I even had to a psychologist because the camp messed with me so much.
At the start of every school year our daughter counts down the number of days until camp starts, this is her 5th summers at Matoaka and it is without question "one great place." As a parent, the confidence, independence and friendships she has developed at camp is truly amazing to see. From water skiing to climbing a 40' tower and zip lining through the woods, Matoaka and its staff have pushed her out of her comfort zone to try new things and even surprise herself. The summers she spends at matoaka are imeasurable and something that she will remember for the rest of her life.
My daughter has been a camper at Matoaka for the last 5 years. We are so fortunate to be able to send her to such a warm and welcoming community. The enthusiasm of the Directors and supporting staff is contagious. You can't help but feel the "Matoaka Magic" as summer nears. My daughter has learned amazing characteristics and self confidence through her time spent at "One Great Place". She has formed meaningful friendships with girls from near and far that will last a lifetime.
These people hired my daughter that was fully fit per their requirements to be there. She had an illness (that was treated) , and all doctors deemed her fit to go. This isn't even something that would affect anyone around her. She told them out of honesty and all of a sudden, with no notice they gave her 10 minutes to pack , took her to the airport and left her there. We invested a large amount of money to get there, and nobody there would even discuss the situation with me. This is very hurtful and does not stand by their statements of holding high values and beliefs to help girls grow into strong women. It's exactly the opposite. They have been disrespectful in this situation. Great job on making someone feel like a failure.
My experience with Camp Matoaka is pretty limited, as I was only here for about 24 hours to celebrate a friend's wedding. The camp was in good condition with multiple playing fields, tennis courts, a small beach, water slides, art and dance studios, etc. The staff was very friendly and professional. We stayed in one of the pink cabins, which were in good shape, clean with relative few signs of abuse by pre/teens. We had dinner one night and brunch the next morning, both provided by the camp dinning staff. The brunch was better than the dinner, but both were quite good. Most importantly, they serve real Maine Maple Syrup -- none of that imitation stuff. My wife who went to several camps and was a camp counselor once upon a forever ago proclaimed it to be 'way fancier' than her camps.
Lo amé! I loved!
