I loved it here. Very good food at the restaurant. Hotel room was intimate and cozy but modern. The room heats up fast so don't worry. Friendly staff. Good shampoo and conditioner. Small rooms but they do the job. I loved the chairs that they had in the back on the river that you can sit in. Great place

The Big Sur River and is a beautiful location and in beautiful Big Sur you think you can't go wrong, but no. If you stay, it'll go wrong, stay elsewhere!

I stayed here for a wedding that I was in and the service from the hotel admins was overall horrible, and ruined the whole weekend. I have very negative associations with my friends wedding because the staff was heartless. Big Sur River Inn staff has no training or customer service skills, they were unequipped to deal with any problems or complaints.
I had two staff members call me a liar, and they charged me $300 for smoking in a room, I never smoked in! The ashtray was unused and they had no proof! I did nothing but sleep for 5 hours and left at 8am due to being so uncomfortable.
The rooms are not that nice.
We stayed in a handicap room- which was NO different than any other room! Scam! The room was the farthest away, they clearly DON'T understand what handicap means!!!
The beds are not very comfortable, the room is average, the couch is uncomfortable the bathrooms were newly remodeled but the light was so sensitive it went off every few minutes to any sound. Not a place I want to stay again. Totally ruined my weekend. I'm a local and when I called regarding the problem nobody gave a care in the world! They were only interested in making more money.

After a long ride from Bay Area, we ended up in this nice restaurant on Hwy 1 in Big Sur. Restaurant has a nice bar and out door seating. There is a shallow river behind the restaurant. There are chairs in the river, where you can relax with your favorite drink. Breakfast/Brunch menu was great!

We came on Black Friday after exploring Big Sur. We arrived just before sunset and enjoyed some drinks watching the gorgeous scenery before us. They have an amazing view. The hostess and bartender were nice, accommodating, and helpful despite the holiday crazies.

The location and staff are fantastic - great food, at a price. The rooms thenselves are pretty standard, but given River Inn's property you won't be staying in your room much anyway. But seriously, the staff rocks and it's a gorgeous spot. Hard to beat location.

Excellent location in the middle of Pacific Coast Highway trip. You can get down to the stream at evening, right after you've had a dinner on the porch of the well handled restaurant. You have to appreciate a place like that in the forest where you don't expect more than the next mile of the road.

The ambiance was radiating. The flies in the outdoor section were great company. When the waitress dropped the mustard she didn't make it seem like a big deal at all. Especially didn't make a big deal about the fact that it exploded on impact and covered the beautiful floors. The tables were nice. Probably crafted from the trees cut down in order to build the restaurant. They left one lone tree right in the middle of the patio to symbolize mankind's dominance over the natural world. Plus they didn't skimp on the bacon. 11/10

Great wedding retreat over a mid September weekend. Location is fun, even with the landslide. Amenities are a bit utilitarian, staff is great, location is prime

This review is for lunch, we did not stay here. Better than expected. Though we requested medium rare, the steak was a decent tasting medium. The Caesar was overdressed but had good flavor. The fried chicken drummettes were good not great. We had low expectations but they were exceeded. Best of all, afterward, we walked down to the river and sat in the Adirondack chairs. Recommended stop for this area where did choices are limited.

Truth be told, we went here only for the restaurant, so my review will be based on that. The food was amazing, very meat centric, so dont expect an abundance of vegetarian options, though one person in our party was and she had a full meal. The staff was awesome and friendly. The setting though is the best part. Their outdoor seating is smack in the middle of the redwoods and even has one as the center piece for the deck. The rustic theme and ambiance, paired with the food choices were perfectly outdoorsy.

The inn was pretty far along highway 1, just because my family and I live in San Fransisco. Overall it was pretty nice, and the lawn, pool, and stream were very clean. I would highly recommend it.

Got a great homemade apple cider whiskey and was able to enjoy it while dipping my feet in the river! What an amazing place! Everyone there was so cheerful.

Really relaxed, cozy, cabin like retreat by the Big Sur River. I have come by for a drink or a bite, and once stayed over in a comfy room. Classic old school California. Highly recommended.

We ate lunch here on a quick drive through the area. The food is good but it is the view that stole the show. I highly recommend one of the furthest spots on the porch off shoot if you can as this spot has the best view in my opinion. Also their locally made root beer is a must have. Amazing place!
