Loved my spinach dumplings - tasted almost like they would at home in Austria. Also liked their Berghoff beer. We had to wait for an hour but we could wait in the cafe downstairs which is really nice in itself.

An historic restaurant in the loop, Chicago. Featuring German foods and an extensive craft beer list including their own Brew. I must for before anyone visiting Chicago. It is very popular with the Traders from the exchanges in Chicago, and the many law offices in the area. There is a bar, lunchroom, and a restaurant. Sorry I don't know the hours of the restaurant.

Our group of 6 were very happy with our dinner and the service. I had the grilled molasses crusted pork chop which was incredible! I would absolutely order it again and will be back the next time I have a trip to Chicago!

Very good German food. The beer is great (their house brand). There is a good selection of food and varieties. It was a bit more expensive than I thought it was going to be, but it is high quality good. Recommend it to anyone in the area. Good for dinner, lunch or happy hour.

The staff was extremely accommodating as we arrived shortly before closing. A beautiful 100+ year old bar. The orange glazed duck was amazinga must try if visiting Chicago.

Great place with a lot of delicious choices. I don't eat pork thus eating German cuisine can be challenging but they had many non pork items on the menu including sea food, chicken, duck. I had an orange glazed duck and it was amazing. Highly recommend for business dinners.

Nice restaurant with a lot of history. We were visiting from out of town and picked this because it was the oldest restaurant in Chicago. We each ordered a beer, which were good, and burgers. Partner had a burger with bacon and I had the lamb burger.both tasty! They bring a bread basket out with different types to snack on while you wait. Service was mediocre at best. It was later at night when we went, and the restaurant not packed, so not sure why it was slow. Overall a good experience though. Definitely worth a visit!

This is one of the oldest restaurants in the City of Chicago. I came here with my grandparents as a child (a long long time ago) and I keep coming back for good reasons.
Outstanding food and drinks.
Outstanding service.
Lovely atmosphere and location.
They are re-working the main bar right now to make it a bit larger, so I can only assume business is good, for good reason. Cheers!

I have lunch a few times a month at the downstairs space that is open from 11 am to 2 pm every weekday. It's apparently called Cage B. It's a pretty darned reasonably priced lunch, and usually delicious. Sandwiches and salads are prepared right in front of you, and it's nice to watch speedy pros make your lunch. I truly enjoy the "Javier's Turkey" and the Corned Beef Reuben. Portions are hefty, and the salads all look pretty tasty as well. They have a pretty good corned beef hash lunch that hits the spot. Coming out of the kitchen, the mac and cheese with fried chicken is a pleasant indulgence. This is a quick and reasonable spot to enjoy a peaceful lunch when you don't feel like sitting at the bar or dealing with a full-service restaurant. Highly recommend.

3.5 would be more precise. I'd give the food a solid 4, and the service is good and prompt. The problem is the service is a bit too prompt. If you are in a hurry to eat and get to a show, this is a good choice. But if you want to relax and take your time savoring the meal, you will feel rushed here. You'll barely get a sip of beer before the appetizer arrives, and the busboy won't quite be out of sight before the main course is plopped down on the table. Get you in and get you out. Lighting is a bit bright too.

Great German beer and pretzels in the oldest bar in Chicago. Fun fact, they hold liquor license #1 that was the first one issued after prohibition was repealed. Try to find the speak easy if you can.

I understand the previous reviews regarding price however I feel the the value is there. The level of service and the quality of the food is one of the best in Chicago. The hostess greeted us at the curb and escorted us into the restaurant because the valet was away briefly. Our waiter carefully explained every option on the menu and every detail of the dish upon its arrival. Food was excellent and fascinating. Each dish is carefully crafted with many different layers of taste.
