What a lovely breakfast spot! Very French in decore! The wait staff is very nice and helpful in a efficient but not bothersome way. It was a perfect Latte and and eggs Benedict! It will for sure be a favorite stop for me when in NYC for business!
At the recommendation of a friend, I attended this place. I did not know what to expect. The name was a bit strange to me. I was not sure what I was going to find in this place. Right when I walked in I was really taken aback by the lighting. The place was bright and had a very unique look to it. It did not seem like the typical restaurant I go to with my wife. This place had an interesting vibe and I was excited to try out the food. Once we were sat down, we got our food in no time. I was surprised at how quick we got our food. I really loved the Christmas decorations that they had there. I hope to return soon!
Really wanted to like Balthazar more than I did. Very accommodating despite not having reservations and being extremely busy. Solid lunch service. Good cheeseburger, with excellent beef. Okay fries. But, really, this is destination dining by reputation, not quality or value. Nothing here, other than reputation and sterling ambiance, was better than what could be had at an upstart, or even a neighborhood fave. Don't get me wrong, I'm not sorry I dined at Balthazar, but I'm glad it was lunch. For the orices, I could do better so many other places that still have passion for food. Go, but go once and temper your expectations regarding innovation, excellence, or value. You'll do okay. Or, a bit better.
Although we made reservations for a party of 5 for brunch, we still had to wait for a good half hour to be seated. I passed by this place many times while in SoHo and had wanted to try it, so I decided it was worth the wait. The restaurant was bustling with people and waiters, but the noise level wasn't too bad as all of us were able to have a conversation without using our "outdoor" voice. I ordered the eggs Benedict, my usual at brunch. The sunny-side up eggs were served over a slice of bacon and an English muffin. The English muffin was a bit burnt and too hard for my liking. The taste was okay, the portion was decent, but I expected a little more. I walked away paying about $40 for brunch. Was it worth it? I don't think so. I've had better brunches for less. But I guess I would have never known if I didn't give it a try.
I did not know what to expect going into this restaurant. I had mixed feelings about it. I went because my friend recommended it and it turned out that I would be glad that he did recommend it. I really loved the fries here. I had an extra order made because they were so good. It is a typical place. It was very nice. The service was above average and I was not expecting that. Usually places like this do not have the best of service. There were some items on the menu I had never heard of. I decided to play it safe and get onion rings. I gotta say, it was very good and I am happy with the choice I made to go there.
If you are looking for a breakfast place that will blow your tastebuds and make you feel like you are back in time on a classic titanic boat. This is your place. Amazing historic styling of the restaurant.
I also thought the service was fantastic. I would highly recommend
Eggs Benedict was wonderful. My scrambled eggs that I ask for runny was closer to cooked. Overall food was great but on pricey side. Beautiful and classy venue though.
Even if it was very crowded, they still managed to find our party of four a table without a reservation. The service was great and so was the food. I had the pancakes with the warm berries and I really enjoyed every bite. I'll definitely go again when I visit NY.
My girlfriend and I stopped by for dinner last week. She had the Arctic char which was great, I had the burger and fries, very tasty. The issue started when I ordered our drinks. I received my Manhattan, which had a fruit fly in it, no big deal. Just mentioned it to the waitress and she switched it out for a new one (waitress was very friendly). When the new drink arrived, the rim of the glass was chipped, again no big deal but they should been a little more careful, especially since I just returned a drink. Now my main issue, and it may just be me. After something like this, I would think that my drink would be comped Didn't happen.
Overall, a great experience (food wise). But had to give them 3 stars
Balthazar has the feel and energy of a bistro. It's design is very chic and the workers there remind you of something out of a movie with the way they are dressed. They're very courteous and all the patrons seem to just be having a great time, which just adds to the atmosphere of the space. They seated me before my friend arrived, which is not something that happens on a normal basis at restaurants. They will wait until your entire party arrives before seating you and they were very accommodating. When they arrived, they brought them to my seat as well, which was really nice. The manager was chatty and friendly and willing to be of help at every turn.
Now in terms of the menu, being that it was brunch, I do wish they had more breakfast items, but the ones they have on the menu are definitely worth every bite. The french toast, the waffles with mixed berries, all delicious. Their baked goods are also amazing as well. I highly recommend this place at least one time if you're a New Yorker.
I had the most amazing time as a first time patron. I loved it! I had breakfast and it was everything I thought it would be. The ambience was so relaxing. I still don't know why the playing cards on the ceiling though.
Lost my way and ended up having late lunch in the restaurant. Super crowded even it's 3pm on a Friday afternoon.
Seating is crazy, you almost knock elbows with the next table, staffs are attentive, food is tastyall comes with first class price.
This is a very hyped and overrated brasserie. It is crazily popular in NYC but in Europe there are many like this. I feel the food was average but the atmosphere is always good. I was disappointed with my cappuccino because it was boiling hot and for the price I expected better quality. Food is good but not amazing. The great thing about this place is you can pop in for coffee and pastries or just go for dessert. Service is charming if you are in a big group but if you go on your own I feel they do not pay as much attention.
If you like pastries, this is a must go. I'm not big on suites, but My girlfriend loved it. This place is great. There is a restaurant ( which we walked into) and the next door bakery. We visited the bakery and left happy. You can also currently find their treats at The James Hotel in SOHO at the coffee bar.
