If I could leave no stars I would!!! My brother purchased a kitten from here and soon after got a job that took up a lot of his time and decided he'd be better off with a new family. I stepped in and decided I would like the kitten (he's an amazing cat) Unfortunately he had taken the cat back to the shelter they day befor I found out. So I called and told them I would love to have the cat back and give him the proper care! Mind you this was less then 24 hours after he brought the kitten back.. they will not let me take the cat back!! Me and my brother live in the same home.. all the info is the same except the adopters name!! I'm pissed .. I want to give a homeless cat a forever home and they will not have it unless I pay for him ALL OVER AGAIN!! THATS NOT RIGHT!! If your priority is to give these cats good homes you would not put a cat through that!

Went in to find a particular cat, but fell in love with Mason(now named Gus) Why, my wife was upset with the death of our former cat name
Sam. Though the cat was a domestic shorthair, Turns out he is part
Russian Blue (short hair) and part some other breed. Took a while, but he is warming up and sleeps a lot, but eating good and is very friendly.

My son and I went in last week. We looked at a few dogs. So many nice looking dogs. We found a 9 month old puppy. He is wonderful. We would like to thank the staff for being so friendly and patient with us. Our new family member has now taken over our hearts and our furniture. He is always cuddling, full of kisses and much more. Thanks for a wonderful experience

Wonderful place, people, and animals! There are so many animals to love. The facility is clean and everyone is so helpful. Kathy took care of us and our new kitty, she was a super help though the process and made it so easy! They are so honest and try to match the pets to the families! The animals seem very happy at the center!

What a wonderful place the humans are and the animials are all beautiful the staff was amazing and kind and patient they showed us dogs for hours they loved and cared about all the animialsits cean and organized and run by great people and vollenteers we adopted a blue nose bully they named Poindexter. he has a perfect pointed arrow on top of his adorable head he is 3 and was a stray he is perfect and he rescued my family 😊 thanks to all the beautiful people at the Animial Welfare League in Port Charlotte fl we appreciate all you do for the animials and and people ❤

We just came back after seeing a dog we really liked and got along well with my child. There weren't a lot of dogs because of the holidays but even the dogs that were left looked extremely happy and healthy. The facilities were well taken care of and it looked like the perfect place to get a shelter dog. We filled out the application and were patiently awaiting approval, there was one woman who took over the process and from the start of our interaction I could tell she wanted to go home and wanted nothing to do with adopting a dog (it was 10 min after adoption cut off by this time). She demanded we call our landlord and if he approved everything is fine, we got him on the line and she immediately got snotty with him and condescendingly asked for the owner of the properties name, when the landlord explained that he was the property manager and he approved it, she shakes her head frustratingly and hands me my phone back and says she doesn't believe us, that there is something bad going on in our house and she doesn't trust us. Now keep in mind I could already tell this had nothing to do with what she was claiming, she simply just didn't want to continue finishing the adoption because it was 10 minutes after cut off. She claims nobody knew the owner of the houses name even Though I had given it to her, but he doesn't live in this country and doesn't speak English. I just want this business to be aware that Renee labrecque does NOT have your animals best interest at heart. She refused an adoption when every other staff member was anticipating us taking this sweet dog home. And she claims it's because she's looking out for the dog. She is rude, snotty, and judgemental, and should not be the person on the front line adopting out dogs. She insinuated we were incompetent because we didn't have a fenced in yard, yet the person handling the adoption before said the dog was an escape artist and having a fenced in yard wouldn't help because she would just jump it. My wife was crying as we left this place because of how terrible she was to us. We will be back to adopt that dog, but best believe upper management will hear about this. I hope she doesn't treat the dogs as poorly as she treats her customers. I don't even want to go back to that place and deal with her again, and the only reason I am is for the dog. Normally I would never give my business when an employee treats me this bad, but this has nothing to do with my feelings, it's about putting the dog in a good home, and if Renee would have been a little more patient, this dog would be in a loving home right now.

I must say how impressed I am with the AWL of
Pt. Charlotte. The people that work here and the volunteers are Heaven-sent Angels. The day I went to adopt a dog, the parking lot was full of "dog walkers" volunteering their time and giving the dogs exercise, it filled my heart with joy to see how much these people really cared. Every animal had fresh water and food in their cage as well as a comfy blanket. Also, when one dog got nervous and went to the bathroom in his cage, the workers and volunteers immediately noticed and cleaned it up within 2 minutes. I also really enjoyed how when you are I rests in adopting a dog, you must bring the others in our household as well as your other pets to make sure all family members get along with the new pet. You are encouraged to go out in a fenced area and spend an hour with with your new pet to bond. I enjoyed this process because it showed me that not anyone off the streets could just come in and adopt for the wrong reasons. The people that work here really work to get to know you and make sure the animals are going to good homes and this puts my mind at ease. You can tell the employees and volunteers really have passion and care for these animals. They are not treated like prisoners thrown on a cold floor. I also witnessed two different people Come In and donate food and blankets. Please consider adopting from here, it's really a great experience.
