Al's Tavern in Altoona PA is by far the best place for Awesome Hot Wings and exceptionally great staff! Very hospitable and respectful! I highly recommend Al's Tavern for a genuine good time!

Plenty of parking! Great beer selection! Be sure to try "Al's Hooter" (a tasty version of Pittsburgh's "Primanti sandwich") and their equally tasty garlic wings!

Excellent food! Small hole in the wall place located in a half residential and half urban neighborhood not where you would expect this to be. Convenient parking located across the street. Large menu and fast service even when busy. Food from burgers and sandwiches to pizza and salads and wings. Bar located in the front and dinning area located in the back.

It's not just a corner bar. It's better! Great family owned and operated. If you don't try it you'll never know how great the food is. Deserves 5 stars. If i didn't give it 5 stars, AL would send Carmine and Luigi to rough me uploldrink and be Mary!

Great service. I had the 1 lb all American burger. Best burger in Altoona by far if not all Pa. Fresh cut fries were also very good. Definitely will go back again and agaij

OH, how the mighty have fallen!!!
Out to dinner tonight with my buddy. We decided on Al's Tavern. We each ordered a Steak Salad and we split a dozen wings. I prefer the fries on the side, and only eat a few while they are hot. I ordered the wings "super extra well done"!
The wings were gummyperiod! End of the wings! They barely got the sauce on the wings. A quarter of the celery and carrots were just tiny little chips, not worth bothering.
The salads arrived. Our steak was not even luke warm. It was cold! I had the waitress touch it and her eyes got wide and apologized profusely! She took both salads away and promised to get them corrected. The steak that I did try to eat was so unbelievably tough, that I spit both bites out and set aside from the original salad. When she returned, it was the same meat on the same salad, warmer and even tougher. I think it had been nuked. They forgot my buddy's fries this time. My fries never went back, so they didn't bring new fries this time. Our disappointment was obvious to our server and she took them away to have completely new salads made. These came "correctly", but the meat was too tough to cut, letalone chew.
The server, I think, was totaly embarrassed or pissed, beause we barely saw her again and another server was waiting on us.
The service was ok. She was friendly and somewhat attentive. But the food was dismal at best. Sorry but there isn't anything that didn't suck!! We were both starved too!! Half decent woulda probably been acceptable! The only fortunate thing was they didn't charge for our salads.

Always good drinks mixed or draft. There is everything on the menu you can think of. I personally love the Reuben. You can't go wrong with the wings though. The jerk wings are a must try. The bartenders are easy going and if there isn't a huge rush going a lot of the staff will carry on a conversation with you. It's definitely a cool local hangout.
