This was a cool place to walk around. They have free tours but we just walked around and read the signs. No luck in the kiwi cage. We didn't do the dinner and show. Gift shop has some really nice things.

Bubbly mud, sitting rocks heated by geothermal activity, the largest geyser in the southern hemisphere, and more!
On top of the very interesting landscapes, the facility also has a lot of information about Maori culture and even a dinner package which guides you through all of the land formations and even a visit to the Kiwi house. It also included a theatrical presentation of Maori culture and a visit to the two schools on site for wood carving and weaving.
It seems like a lot of money to drop, but the dinner package was very worth it! Full buffet complete with some tastes of local cuisine.response / report this review -

We enjoyed our time here. The facilities are great. The mud baths, hot pools and geysers are all top notch and the cultural show was one of the better shows I've seen in New Zealand. The staff are obviously (rightfully) very proud of what they've managed to build but I'm not sure if recommend the tour. You'll learn a lot but I think it's probably a better experience to start the tour and drop off before the kiwi house to explore more of the place on your own.

Great experience. I felt like they did Maori justice by informing their guests of language and history and waiata. The young guy in the concert was terrible. Looked like he didn't care or want to be there and that ruined the whole thing.

Wonderful place to view geyser, mud pools, kiwi, native plants, wood carvings, weaving, cooking pool. Every hour has local guided tour which is very informative to learn more about Maori culture. Enjoy it very much with lots of pics taken.

I really enjoyed this Maori village and think it's the best one available. Our guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable. The music and arts performance was good. We walked around the park and observed a natural geyser up close - it was very impressive. Beware, some of the other parks actually use man-made geysers.
I also enjoyed learning more about the Maori culture. We met some very friendly ladies that showed us how to weave flax, and we also saw some amazing carpentry skills.

I'm so glad to see a place like this run by the wonderful Maori people, and offering everyone such an amazing experience.
The main geyser here is certainly the most wonderful and impressive thing I have ever seen in nature.
You could easily spend a good few hours here and still have interesting things to see and do.
The gift shop is also really impressive and offers some really interesting items of Maori significance.
Make sure to get to this place if you're in the wondrous town of Rotorua.response / report this review -

Price just about worth it for the sights, highly recommend the free hour long tour to get more background info. Highlights were the geysers, mud pools and captive kiwi bird. Also enjoyed the extra paid for cultural performance, including the haka. Slightly disappointing part is it feels extremely commercial, concrete walkways slapped through the volcanic area felt a step a bit too far. Overall worth the trip

A little over priced for the park I think, but the cultural show is quite cool if you haven't seen any of the local culture yet. The geyser is the tallest in southern hemisphere, though that doesn't hold a candle to old faithful in the USA. Some interesting extra exhibits like traditional carving and weaving. Can easily see most things in the park in about an hour and half (not counting the cultural show).

We visited all around this area and saw all the hot springs, the parks and estuary. It's quite a fantastic area but really stinky directly above the gassy holes from which the hot muddy water bubbles. The whole area around Rotorua is quite amazing. Some of the park areas are beautiful and green but the muddy, bubbling, hot springs are a wasteland of grey and brown mud.

lovely mix of volcanic geysers and Maori culture
we went on the tour that includes lunch where you pack your own meat vegetables etc in a container at the start of the tour and while you go round the park it is cooked in the geyser, and you finish the tour with your lunch nice and hot.
we were lucky and there was only 4 of us in the group and our tour guide was excellent and he communicated everything wonderfully.

Definitely a neat and worthwhile place to go, especially for learning about Maori culture. I'd highly recommend the free your after paying the entry fee. The geyser and the kiwi can be hit or miss, so it's best to make several trips to each to make sure you get a chance to see them when they are out and active. Check the TVs outside the kiwi house to see if it's sleeping in the box, which is what it does 20 hrs of the day, and if so, just come back later.
