Info center and cafe at the starting point for walks is great. Modern building and also the HQ for Department of Conservation. (DOC) DOC staff member always on duty when open. Great bush walks below the snow line. Beautiful views when the cloud and mist cover is lifted.

Superbly maintained walkways around Mt.Egmont (Mt. Taranaki) for all experience levels. Situated 25 km out of New Plymouth. Snack food, clothes shop, toilets before the big or not so big walk. Beautiful bird song in the morning and later afternoon

Great for walks, tramping, hiking,. Good in winter. Great views. One of the best place in North Island, New Zealand. I like this more than Tongariro.

Best reward for investment as this mountain is quite easy to summit (with moderate fitness) and has an excellent view at the top. Apparently NZ's second deadliest mountain though due to rapid changes in weather. So check the weather, dress warm, AND DON'T DECIDE TO SIT STILL AND WAIT TO BE RESCUED. No significant snow in the midst of summer, but plenty during other seasons. Crampons and ice pick of some sort may sometimes make life easier. And you don't have to make it to the top to find it rewarding.
