Just had a great meal at this pub. Having read the reviews I wonder if I am in the same place. It was quiet when we visited (start of summer). The meals came quickly. They left us wanting nothing after as we were full. I think the price was on par with other places maybe $2 more. Very tasty. We would definitely eat here again. The bar staff were friendly and came over to our table to talk to us. Obviously if they are busy this probably would not have happened. .

Stomachs growling, children crying, anger building up we thought we found comfort in a tavern called the Clyde hotel. Upon arrival, we requested a seat, however there appeared very little effort made by them to get us one. The waitress responded "if you can find one sit there." After eyeing up several tables, we realized this was futile and we left. However the story does not end there. We found ourselves back there 10 minutes later. Mysteriously some more tables appeared, something that had clearly slipped there mind in the first instance. So we were seated finally.
We then ordered one starter and three mains. Our stomachs were growling and tempers were fraying when an hour later after many request our garlic bread starter finally arrived, in a form that would probably take ten minutes to make. Considering how long the starter took we were nervous about how long our mains would take and were preparing to camp the night. Miraculously they arrived 15 minutes later, although my daughters steak looked more on the well done side then the requested medium. I was left god smacked wondering if they had to kill the cow as well as cook it, from the time it took to come out. All the while the waitress who took our order did not come to check on us once except to bring us the wrong dishes. And as I leave Ohakune I still wonder what the "free" WiFi access code is.

Epic fail! We were looking forward to a really nice pub meal with our kids tonight. Should have read the reviews first lol. Food came out of the kitchen in a ridiculously slow pace. Then when tables did get some food, it was an embarrassment with everyone receiving meals at different times. After sitting waiting for 40mins in a smoke-filled tavern and watching barely any food coming out of the kitchen, we asked how much longer the wait would be. The waitress said she would ask and never returned with a reply. Out we walked.
