Rooms are a bit small but pretty nice. Then run shuttles to the crossing, however consider using the shuttles provided by cafe near the gas pump which is a bit ahead of the hotel. Continental breakfast was good. The public washroom in hotel was also clean.

I visited the Park Hotel for breakfast only, so that's all this review is about. The Eggs Benedict were good - a much larger breakfast than one would normally expect from Eggs Benedict. The toasted waffles were terrible. Don't order. The main attraction to this restaurant is that it's open early.

Loved this hotel!
Fantastic views of Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe.
The rooms were clean and very comfortable . The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Particular thanks to Dan ( the barman), Colin (chef) Stephanie and Wayne . Your customer service skills are truly outstanding. You really made our stay a lovely experience.

Wow so sad to see how far down this place has gone, I have stayed there 3 or 4 times over the years the first being only a year or two after it opened and because of the staff, cleanliness, facilities and atmosphere we always looked at availability of the Park first especially when we had our kids. Sadly this most recent time we where there so much had changed for the worse that we won't be back unless there is major changes. Firstly our booking over the website bombed out so we call it through and got someone who said they couldn't sort it until their manager was back and they would call me back, surprise surprise they didn't call me, so 24hrs later I called back and got someone else who said the exact same thing. So I waited for their call and again a day goes by and no one calls. So I call back again and get a helpful person but now the room we wanted was gone so there was a day of back and forth sorting dates and rooms etc. When we got there we found the room we had (which we had had before) was different. The table and chair in the room had been taken out so we had to put our meals on our beds or knees also the beds are pretty uncomfortable. We didn't realize the communal kitchen had been removed so that was a bummer and a big change to our plans. Like every other time at the snow after a day of skiing we come back and put all of our wet gear in a dry room but the Parks was "under maintenance" for 3 days so we had to sprawl all our gear over our room. Another problem was the two spa pools both were playing up, one was scolding hot but the other was luke warm and again it was apparently unable to be rectified while we were there. The Wifi was iffy from our room, not sure if it was any better in other rooms I gave up using it and just used my data. I do hope they make changes but until they do I won't come back.

Staff were cold to our check in with nothing more than a quick key handover and instruction to find our room. The room itself was particularly unusual with a large amount of space filled with a single and a queen bed. Tea and coffee facilities were provided although the jug was filled from the shower head as the bathroom sink was made for ants.
The bathroom itself was peculiar with a shower opposite a toilet and a sink in the middle. With nowhere to hang towels, nowhere to store clothes or luggage, the suggestion that this is a three person room is laughable (however our upstairs neighbours certainly managed to have a party in theirs).
The Park Hotel would certainly be a wonderful place to stay during the ski season, however do expect a motel feel with hotel pricing.response / report this review -

Nice, clean and tidy hotel. I was a walk in late into the evening. Had made no prior booking. I opted for the room that can accommodate 4 (it was just me, my wife and 6 year old) with another bedroom setup on a mezzanine floor. The room, bathroom and linen were all clean. The toilet is tiny so if you are a largish person, it's gonna be a squeeze. The room in general is compact. The room has a couch, small refrigerator, a kettle, a room heater and TV. Free Wi Fi too though a little patchy on reception and speed. Just the room was $125 taxes included. No bed and breakfast deal was on offer. I stayed on 14/10.
The one restaurant and bar serves at the Park has a decent selection of food and beer/liquor. Meal for two works out to around $50. Not cheap and that's to their advantage as there are no other restaurants in the area except for a cafe.
My only complaint is the parking. The middle row has crater sized potholes and on a damp day, like it was when we were there, it is difficult to walk with all the puddles of water.response / report this review -

The park hotel was okay, the room stayed warm overnight, however the room was freezing when we arrived. There is no microwave or anything apart from a kettle in the rooms, we asked for them to heat up the meal we had bought in a sealed package from the the supermarket earlier that day, to our surprise they refused. There is no other options for food apart from their overpriced restaurant or pub down the road. The WiFi is also shockingly bad. Spent the night a little bored and hungry. Not the best experience. Won't be staying here again.

Warm and very cozy, backpacker style, clean and has everything you need. Great service and super close to the crossing. Large kitchen, nice movie room, has a hot spa, though we were too tired to use it. Nicely decorated too, which always makes a trip a bit special. Super helpful staff! Would definitely stay there again :)

We stayed for the first time at The Park Hotel in National Park. The ambience was nice, basic but warm and friendly.
Then the second day after returning from our walk all the food for the next day that we stored above the fridge was gone. The room was serviced so we told reception. They said we must have left the door unlocked and this could happen. A prompt excuse followed and an upgraded breakfast for the next morning was offered. The next morning we triple checked that we locked the door before we went to the dining-room for our upgraded breakfast. We came back 45 min later and yep…the door was unlocked and ajar. Again we mentioned this to reception and their reply was… the room service is not even started. Nothing was taken this time. But our confidence in the security of this establishment is gone and we don’t want to return. Matt and Susan.response / report this review -

The rooms are a bit basic and the walls a bit thin but they're warm and perfectly adequate for a couple of nights while you take in the local activities - tramping, skiing etc. The communal area is fantastic designed to let different groups have their own space without impacting on each other but still lending to a happy buzz. The food is great!

Cute comfortable rooms, great views of the mountain from restaurant. I recommend the a la carte menu, eggs benny was delicious. Love the lodge like feel and hot tubs are a bonus on a cool rainy day.

This hotel is perfect for hikers with shuttles leaving every morning. The restaurant here is pretty good as well. The breakfast buffet is an absolute joke, there isn't much to choose from and they run out of food fast. The good news is you can upgrade your meals from the restaurant for like $4 extra.
They also make you pay for WiFi which I HATE! Minus 1 star for that alone!response / report this review
