This was absolutely the worst customer service I've ever received. I booked online, my credit card was charged, and booking was confirmed via email. I called the hotel to confirm that the office would be open when I arrived at 9:30pm. The owner, a lady, answered the phone and was unapologetically rude to me. She said that I shouldn't be calling her "at this time of night" and she "couldn't imagine why anybody would arrive at 9:30pm" and that she was unwilling to open the door to the lobby, she was closed, and she would not honor my reservation because I woke her up.

During her angry tirade, I repeatedly apologized for waking her and stated that I was only interested in getting the key to the room that had already been charged to my credit card.

I've never heard of a small business owner refusing to take a customer's money because she "worked 18 hours today" and making it seem like it's my fault for trying to check in to the hotel I already paid for.

Well, I took my business elsewhere, and I encourage everybody to do the same. The new hotel I booked with down the road was friendly and cordial at the reception desk.

The Beechtree Motel

My wife and I enjoyed out stay at Taupo as guests of this excellently appointed Motel as we journeyed through the North Island. We sadly lost our hire car keys and when the owners noticed our delay, the graciously offered us every possible assistance including driving us to the hire office location in a nearby town. I commend the hospitality and service of this motel to all our fellow Aussie travellers. Florindo Mignone

Comfy beds and a bathroom and parking. More than good enough. I'd stay there again. A bit of a walk to town (1km?) but not far from the lake shore.

We just stayed recently for two nights and it was so lovely. Beds are so comfortable and great shower and bath. Very nice people. I would highly recommend to anyone and I will definitely be going back and thank you for a wonderful stay!!!! Kind regards, Liz

I am a regular client of the Beechtree. Clean, comfortable, good wifi, cable TV.. I would give it 5 stars if it had a nice view.

Excellent place to stay, very clean rooms. Nice and close to the shopping centre. Great size TV in the room with all the Sky channels. One of the best parts of the hotel is the unlimited fibre internet very fast. Would recommend to stay here.

Very clean, comfortable, stylish rooms. We only stopped the one night whilst passing through Taupo, but was impressed with the room, which had a large king (or maybe queen?) size bed, the usual complimentary tea and coffee facilities, a 40 inch TV and a bathroom with shower and spa bath. In fact a sliding door room divider even allows you to watch TV whilst in the bath! :-) The lady on reception was both cheery and polite. Free, unlimited Wi-Fi was included. Shops, a cinema and a whole host of eateries are only a 15 minute stroll away.
