Overall: Go somewhere else. Walk just a little further to any of the many hotels in the area and they are sure to be better.

    Details:
This place is dirty. Bathrooms, showers, lounge area, kitchen, rooms themselves are dirty. And I understand you take a sacrifice of value and comfort to stay at a hostel but this wasn’t even worth the $30. (YHA was the same price and their entire place is clean, WiFi is free, and their lock boxes in the rooms have outlets in them so you can charge your phone securely.)

The elevators didn’t work and the stairwell doors were locked so it was a lot of waiting and cramming into a dirty elevator to get anywhere.

There was a large spill on the carpet from who knows when before us that made the room stinks pungent sour smell. When told about it at check-in, a woman came in at 11p (when two of the girls were already sleeping obviously) to spray some sort of cleaner on it. That just mixed with the smell and further saturated the carpet with liquid which I’m sure will just feed the mold already fermenting.

My bed was missing a duvet and pillow. I had to talk to 3 people 3 different times with hours between to get them. They kept “sending housekeeping” (which were also waiting with trolleys for the half functioning elevators) to which they eventually just grabbed from a nearby closet with a key I had to further wait for them to get. I checked in at 3p, I got my nasty, stained, thin, flimsy pillow and smelly duvet at 10p.

A terrible dirty and filthy place!!! Staff doesnt pay attention on you, the elevator is slow and they forbid you use the stairs to get inside the place. It is probably the worth place i have ever been! The toilet paper wasnt refilled for 48 hours, there is so much junk and dirt in the bathrooms too! My advise? Avoid it, for a little extra you can get a way better service for your money!

Good hostel, clean beds, good kitchen and alright showers! Sadly you can't bring your own alcohol but the bar is really nice!

The Base is a good Hostel. It offers u all necessities like kitchen, laundry, lounges and of course beds as well showers. But exactly the restrooms and showers aren't as nice as in other hostels for example the Haka Lodges. Some Equipment is missing and hadn't been replaced for weeks. (towel dispensers at some floors) The kitchen could definitely be in a better condition as it is right now. Also the hygienic standard isn't the same as in comparable hostels.

This place is one of those hostels with great facilities but not much else.
The staff were super friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Even upgrading our room due to a loud snorer on our first night.
There's a pool table, free Wi-Fi, TV, bean bags, decent kitchen and even a roof bar (though it's a bit small for the population).
The downs unfortunately were that the beds were naff. Squeaky and rickety, with mattresses that were too small for the frame and sunken in the middle. We had room in the old part of the hostel, which had character and the showers etc were great, but the floors and walls needed some restoration and there was some vomit on the stairs for 3 days which was a bit yuck.
The club Habana Joe's downstairs also played the bass so loud it rattled the walls on a Saturday night.
I'd stay again but don't expect too much.

Absolutely recommend this hostel for anyone short or long . They have everything you need for a comfortable stay. I booked the private room Called "sanctuary" really good value, this hostel is really well located. It has a rooftop bar where there are games and halt hours, there is also a travel desk in the third level so anyone can book tours and practically all the activities around New Zealand's. They also have a job centre I guess for longer working holiday visa people . (Not me ). They have a comfortable place to sit down and have a snooze also in the third level . Wifi is not included in the rooms though but it cost only usd6 a day.

Nothing special about this place. Check in is at 2pm and there's a long queue because not enough staff.
There's a TV room and bag storage plus a table for electrical devices. Kitchen is big but has only one microwave. Rooms have no windows to open (but on Queen Street that's fine) they do have cool air and are quiet.

    The place is clean.

It's not the best hostel in the world, but it's not the worst either. It's one of those hostels that you stay at if you don't plan on being at the hostel the majority of the time. There's free WiFi until 7pm, which is usable, but by no means fast. The showers are a bit gross, but the rooms are comfortable. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and it's pretty easy to meet people there. Over all it's okay.

Stayed here twice. Booked double room both times. The first time was great, lots of windows corner room quite quiet but the second time it was like a prison cell, tiny room, no windows, loads of noise every 20mins or so from what im guessing was the lifts and the room next door might as well have been in with us the wall was so thin. Showers are hit and miss, fluctuate hot and cold constantly. But the staff where always friendly and super helpful.

Great hostel. It is huge and well organized. There are good facilities and the staff is great. Both Breakfast and Wifi have to be paid, which is a disadvantage in comparison to other places, but well. They more than make up for it with their travel desk and cool atmosphere.

Right at the main street of Auckland, the staff is very freindly and it is usually very clean. When I was there the luggage room was just a big mess and the beds where not that comfortable, but still okay. You can make 4 toasts at the same time, if I remember it right.

The world worst backpacker I've stayed. There are only two things will let you feel a little bit better: the bed is clean and comfor, and the location is in the city center.
Staff is OK, but this is a HUGH building with lots of travelers, not easy to keep the good quality.
The most terrible is shower room, tiny and dirty!!!!! Even they have 3 lifts, but it's usually one could work!!
We'll never be back, even just for one night.
