Decent if you're a student traveling for a few days or a low maintenance person. The internet isn't free which sucks, so you can go to the Starbucks (quite nice) across the street and get a drink if you're going to have to pay for internet already. There's a Base bar with events every night and sometimes free food, but you can request a quiet room and there shouldn't be any noise bother. The location is great and super convenient for everywhere you'll want to go, whether you're going on tours or taking the ferry to see islands. The hygiene of the shower wasn't amazing but like I said it's a passable lodging for a week or so. It wasn't the most busy when I stayed, but staff were super nice and helpful. I would stay here again.

Its a good hostel with all the facilities. Its right in the city center with access to all the public transport. It has good shack & cafe to chill out in the evening with some live Jiggs. People are friendly & helpful. It includes a lounge with access to WiFi, break fast, kitchen, TV room, game zone, laundry and sitting area.

Stayed in a 4 bed dorm which was clean and spacious. Staff very friendly and informative and the location was so convient. Unfortunately / Fortunately didn't get offered Meth like the other reviewer apparently did but did get a free drink :))

It was OK, it's better than the one in Wellington. Has a great location, nice bar and friendly stuff at that time. Kitchen it's big lounge area could be better.

Yes it was busy because of the Adele concert but the bathrooms were disgusting and not cleaned properly in the 3 nights we were there, sheets grey and grungy looking, pillows either flat or like a solid bullet, rooms hot with very little air conditioning. You need to be either desperate, or young and non caring to stay here.

This is your place only if you want to party in Auckland and only want a place to sleep. That could work. But I cannot recommend it for anybody else. Since it's a big hostel, it may take a long time until it's your turn at the reception, when I stayed there only one elevator accepted the key card as therefore got me to my floor. And the most important thing is to NOT my breakfast there. It must be some kind of joke to take 8$ for that, especially when a broken coffee machine just stays broke a few days.

I'll be honest, Base probably isn't a 4 star but it's certainly not 2 (as the reviews currently show). This is a very standard hostel - clean rooms, good facilities, friendly staff. It's not special and there are better places, but equally its not sub standard and there are much worse places! Our room was clean, spacious enough. The kitchen was absolutely fine and easy to cook in. Common areas were nice too, though we didn't use them. The only things I would say could be improved are possibly more bathrooms (only 1 per floor as far as I could see) and a smoother check in process (we had quite a long queue). Absolutely fine to stay in, especially for an overnight stop as it's extremely well located! If you're staying much longer maybe think about somewhere else, but if you need location and basics then Base is the best bet!

It's been quite a while since my stay so perhaps things have gotten better or worse. Base is both potentially great and potentially very unorganized all around. I was lucky enough to have a shared room that had a view of some nice buildings out the window, and from the lobby / table areas was able to watch a military parade go by. Expect to always see long lines for checkin/out and a little bit of chaos there sometimes. There was a breakfast that I believe you had to pay for and it was so-so. Location was pretty great though if you want to walk and explore the city. I do distinctly remember the bathrooms though which were pretty messy on and off with water (or possibly _other_ puddles) on the floor, but that's somewhat to be expected from the hostel crowd.

Tons of extremely friendly staff, helpful people and information everywhere. Great place if you're just starting your trip to book future excursions and get an idea of what you can do in New Zealand. Bars are great again with friendly staff and an ever changing atmosphere. Take advantage of the weekly deals when they are on!
