Brilliant DOC centre with lots of historical items and information. All very interesting. Staff seem friendly and knowledgeable. Always stop by in here when visiting the area.

Best DOC visitor centre in NZ. Doc officers are very helpful and instead of trying to scary you saying that everything is dangerous like most of other DOC would do, they give you useful info about all types of tracks, tell you what you need to do and it's up to you to make your decision. We got some great info about Ball Pass route and wild camping options, as well as other unmarked tracks.
Also it's almost a museum/gallery with lots of info and pictures about New Zealand Mountaineering/alpine/nature. You can even see the Ice Axe used in the first ascent of Mt Cook.

My experience here is it's a good place for kids. There's activity area under mezzanine and a small theatre for video show. Exhibits were really well presented. My kids just love the animals.

Very informative for hikes (around Mount Cook national park as well as leaflets for around NZ), a small museum, souvenir shop and cafe. Toilets and lots of parking

Good information about Aoraki. Cosy. Helpful staff. Perfect views of the mountains. Can do picnic at the benches outside. Has a good restaurant with good food.
