Lovely hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. We paid for an upgrade to have views of the fjord, well worth it. Great food even catering for my vegetarian and gluten free diet.

Friendly hotel in Balestrand. Stayed for one night during the weekend. If you stay here, try to have a room in the old part of the hotel. We also had a four course dinner in the restaurant, and the food was excellent. The service have room for improvements.

Stunning location and excellent service. Great place to spend a few days between Oslo and Began. Remember to bring things like shampoo with you. Only soap is provided in the rooms. Buffet for breakfast and dinner are excellent and the view from the dining room is spectacular. The hotel mixes old world charm with modern amenities.

The hotel was lovely, food in the buffett of a high standard. Room very nice but no tea/coffee facility in the room which isnt so good in the morning or before bed so take a travel kettle and tea bags. Be careful when ordering drinks at dinner many in our group were billed for drinks they never had, staff add names and room numbers as they like! Even when you pay as you go so keep an eye on what you are ordering. Remember Norway is extremely expensive you can expect to pay £9 for a small glass of house wine and the hotel charges between £2-£4 for a cuppa. The country is clean and fresh and very clean the natural beauty is incredible.

Breakfast buffet was very good. Dinner buffet was excellent! Views are amazing. Cute town. If you want lots of options of things to do, this may not be the place. But if you want to relax, there is no place better.

Wonderful views. Helpful and friendly staff. Unbelievable buffets for breakfast and dinner. Warm clean rooms. All rooms in the 'new' block had balconies, on the front stunning view overlooking the fjord and on the back a fjord view across the car park. Heated floor in bathroom and towels changed every day. If I had to find fault with anything the single beds were a bit narrow. Had a very enjoyable week.

A gorgeous, old hotel steeped in history. The views from the panelled chambers and terrace are incredible. Unfortunately the new wing is a 1960s (?) carbuncle. The interiors are straight out of a period who-dunnit and severely dated. The exterior paintwork is ropey and peeling. If the owners want to retain the opulence and not let it descend into a once-great hotel they need to spend some money and make an effort.

I struggled with this rating. For history and view: 5. Service 4. We were in the historic section-we loved the history and old world charm. The view was amazing and we enjoyed sitting on our deck watching the water. Unfortunately, the room was very noisy from the patio below to the rooms above and around us. They do supply ear plugs. Bed was uncomfortable and small. The shower/tub was high without grab bars or mats. It felt treacherous to climb in and out. The hair dryer was OK although it could have had more power. The room and bathroom lighting was poor. The room was small and two 26 inch suitcases could not readily fit into the room without constantly moving furniture to open doors. There were limited outlets as you might expect from a historical hotel. Good internet speed.The breakfast and dinner were very good with upscale buffets for both. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Really a nice place to stay, with an historic view of either the Victorian era or the early 1960's, depending on which building you're in. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The restaurant was excellent--don't miss the buffet! Wonderful staff.
