It's on the edge of the naroeyfyord gudvangen village where lots of tourist board the fyord cruise from here. The hotel has 3 parts: 1 is the reception area restaurant and shop. 2 is the Viking rooms area with skylights. It is mainly made of wood. 3 is the motel rooms area very modern with kitchenette. The G. Fyordtell lies between 2 high rise mountains with small waterfalls (in October).
Room was small but clean and convenient, just what I wanted. Unbelievable views here! The check-in was easy and the food (while pricey) was delicious in a great viking-inspiried dining hall with long tables and lots of deserts. Will be staying here when I come back!
The Gudvangen Fjordtell offers a glimpse at the life and times of the Vikings. It is a refuge amongst the highways and mountains nearby and the staff is plenty capable of offering solid relief from your travels. As one of the few sites within Gudvangen, you'll definitely appreciate both its time-travelkjnf experience and semblance of modern civilization.
Lovely hotel and town! Everything was clean, the food was good and portions large (it's the only restaurant in town but it's a fine one!), the rooms were very nice with excellent views and very warm, and the Viking village was absolutely lovely. Went for a walk along the fjord and got some amazing pictures. Just bring a mask for your eyes at night if you're going in the summertime--there's no way to block out the sun from the skylight and sunset in summer is very late.
Beautiful location, with unique rooms. Largest detraction from the room was that there was no way to block the large skylight that illuminates the whole room. During the summertime when it is not dark at night it makes it difficult to sleep without a sleep mask. The restaurant is also rather limited in menu: there was only 5-7 entree selections and the salad buffet (not included with an entree).
Haven't stayed in the rooms but the food is very good, the shop is good souvenier fare and the surroundings are awesome! The hospitality is excellent and friendly
There were several good things about staying here but also quite a few negatives. We loved the location, the view doesn't get much better than this. The food was very good at the hotel cafe, slightly limited menu but delicious. We stayed in the Viking room which does not have AC and did not have wifi that worked. I wouldn't recommend the Viking room, I don't think it's worth the money. In May, there was very limited activities that we could do so if I could do it again I wouldn't spend the night here. Other times of year I'm sure it's a hikers paradise. We made the best of it by going on a long walk along the fjord. They recommended we walk to Bakka, a tiny town about 4 miles north through the fjord. At the end of it there is a waterfall hike that takes about 2 hours. We didn't know about that hike so by the time we got there we weren't feeling up to trying the hike. We went up about 10 minutes and the view was beautiful. If you are going just to do the hike I may not recommend the walk before.
Nice, clean, quiet. Drinks can are a little bit pricey. great view!
I love this place. So much heart, craft & whimsy went into the design & attention to comfort of this venue. I felt like a jarl the way I was taken care of during my visit. The food was terrific, the views majestic and my room was well appointed, comfortable and arty. I DEFINITELY will be back when the Viking village just across the river is finished and open for business.
We stayed at Gudvangen Fjordtell one night as it was very close to Flam railway. Beautiful surroundings makes this place very special. We stayed in one of those viking rooms. Great idea of glass roof makes your stay even more incredible as from your bed you can see waterfalls coming down the mountains - unforgettable experience.
The restaurant is just next door serving delicious selection of food.
Staff was very friendly, happy to help.
Gudvangen Fjordtell has a lovely lounge where you have access to WiFi, have a drink at the bar or simply write some post cards.
We would happily go there again.
