Terrible car rental experience with Europcar. DO NOT RENT A CAR WITH Europcar where ever you go, remember this company's logo and its rating, take a mental picture of it and flag it with red colour.
I was charged $346.4 on Nov 10th 2017 for car rental service and insurance by Europcar when I was traveling at Los Cabos Tourism, Mexico. The staff at the counter declined my insurance with Expedia and my American Express insurance. They told me that I have to purchase the insurance with the Europcar by the local law and I did it without any other choices. They told me everything will be covered after my purchase.
After I went back to Toronto, I received $602.93 additional charges without any explanation by EUROPCAR AEPTO S J DEL CABO on Nov 18th 2017.
After the period of waiting for their email response for almost two weeks, they told me that the extra charge came from the car damage. As I far as I am aware, the car was not damaged by the time when I was returning the car. I returned the car in the early morning of Nov 18th around 6 am as I was instructed by the staff to leave the car in front of the office. No staff was there to do the final check during that time because it's too early.
As I've already paid for the insurance with Europcar, why should I pay for the damage on the car if there was one? The insurance suppose to cover the three damages that they mentioned on the Final Invoice (all Spanish on the final invoice): 1 - Fascia Rota 2 - Marco Radiador 1 3 - Tallón.
The Danos (damage) $393.25 should be covered by the insurance and NOW they are not responding my email again!!! What should I do? #DoNotRentEUROPCARwhereeveryougo
When renting, I knew that rental car companies in Mexico were known for tacking on lots of extra fees, so I specifically stated that I wanted only the minimum coverage required by law. Like everyone else, they still charged me for everything they could. When I returned home and looked up what all the charges were, I emailed Europcar to complain. They said since I had signed the contract on site, it was too bad that their employee lied.
My experience was the same. The worst deal I ever received for a rental car. Horrible price, horrible car, had nothing to do with my booking through expedia, they just made it up and took advantage of me (and the guy next to me). I also think they are scamming the insurance company, as they found 'damage' to my car, by feeling under the bumper for scratches from curbs and driveways. I've never heard of that before.
I thought I had rented from Advantage and surprise it is Europecar. This place is a disaster. Even though I gave him an AMEX collision damage waiver he tried to charge me for the coverage. When I corrected him he put a $5,000 hold on my AMEX. It took 20 minutes to get picked up and we are still waiting for the car. And, when we got the car the tire gauge showed low air pressure and we were told not to worry about it.
This is by far, the WORST car rental agency i ever had to deal with, the people in charge of that place are a bunch of crooks that will try to rip you off any way they can.
First of all they sold us a fake 2nd driver insurance.
Then gave us a car with NO PLATES on with
an expired registration.
The second car they gave us BROKE DOWN and i had to get it fix in town and drive to the next Europcar location.
But when we brought the car back they didn't even apologize and tried to get money from us because of those "new dings" on the car.
Even though we didn't hit anything during the entire trip.
I forgot to mention that the manager asked me at least 10 times which hotel i was gonna go to that night even though it is not required by law to get that information from the customer.
My guess is that they were gonna come to our hotel at night and steal the car back from us and then get the insurance company to pay for it, then proceed to sell it on the black market or tear it down and sell parts individually.
Ive lived in Mexico long enough to know what these guys are up to.
Anyway, if you still decide to rent a car from them, Good luck, you're gonna need it.
this is an absolute SCAM, the thing is they should offer the minimum liability that's required by law, and it's included on any car rental by LAW
The worst experience!! Don't waste your time and money to these thieves!! My wife booked online and got a good deal on a Minivan with liability insurance but when we got there all they had for us was a Jetta and or small Mercedes hatchback. I have 5 members in my family and surfboards etc. They didn't care!!! I should've just cancelled it and went to Hertz or Budget. It took an hr to get a car. The full coverage insurance was $317 USD for six days..what a rip off!! Never again Europcar!!!!!
Do not use. Price might seem low but after mandatory insurance. Price will be similar to name brand rental. Use hertz. Avoid at all costs. We rebated a mini van. They did not have it in and said they would deliver to our resorts. Two days later still no mini van. Horrible Customer service.
Made a rental reservation through Expedia for an "SUV" type of vehicle. Had to wait for nearly 30 minutes for my vehicle to be ready.
In the end I received a Jeep Patriot.
It was a poorly maintained car that made weird noises in every turn, was out of balance, and had an automatic transmission with shifting problems.
I drove to La Paz and back to Los Cabos, and on the way back something started burning my right foot. Some liquid that was dripping from underneath the dashboard got through my right foot sneaker and felt like it was burning.
I had to quickly pull over so I could get out of the car and take it my sneaker and sock off.
I had to put a plastic bag to keep this liquid from dripping on me so I could continue driving. Unfortunately it was past midnight and I was out of cell phone coverage so I could even call the "road assistance" number.
Anyhow, I got myself to the Red Cross, where they cleaned up my toes and put something to help it heal.
I am simply not interested in paying for a service that end up physically hurting me. So I returned the car the next morning and cancelled the remainder of my rental period.
It still remains to be seen if they'll refund the full rental amount.
I have rented a lot of cars in my life and this was by far the most unprofessional experience I have ever had renting a car. Everything about renting from here was horrible. The service, the hidden fees, the piece of junk car, and the return. I will never rent from Europcar ever again.
Scam.. big time.,. Booked online on Expedia.. got ripped off!!
Insurance scam! Beware! Orbitz reservation said 17 a day for insurance. Wanted over $700 for a seven day rental. Luckily I had a reservation at another car rental agency and left. Bottom line: low class, unprofessional thieves.
A horrible experience. They did not have the car I reserved, no apologies or explanation. Then the tried the insurance scam where they demanded extra insurance even though 3rd party was included in the advertisement (they weakly denied that). The upshot was that for a reserved rental price of U.S. $200 they wanted nearly U.S. $1,000. The scam is common in Mexico but this was the worst I had ever seen. I will avoid them completely in future.
