Whatever price you’re quoted online will double or triple once you arrive. They’ll force you to buy expensive car insurance, telling you it’s a new law (it isn’t). Since you have to take an infrequent shuttle to the office, they know they have you once you’re in their office; you won’t go back to the airport. They won’t give you the car if you don’t buy their insurance either. OH yea, their office isn’t in the terminal as advertised either.
This is a common tactic in touristy Mexico. They claim it’s the law, but can’t provide any evidence of it. I told them I had rented a car in Mexico 3 weeks prior without this law, and they conveniently said the law is only 2 weeks old. I told a friend about this, and he had apparently the exact same bogus explanation given in April.
This place is shady. Also take note that 2 of their reviews were likely submitted by their own staff to inflate their rating.
Seems like I’m not the only one who was literally forced against my will to purchase their expensive “mandatory insurance.” I called ACE customer service in the US- they told me no insurance in necessary, but didnt believe that people are being forced into buying insurance. They can block $2000 as a deposit on your card instead. I attached the locations own policies, so you can see for yourself how the workers here lie through their teeth.
Of course, given how shady these SOBs are, I’m 100% certain they’d find a way to get you back if you demand they put a deposit on your card instead. Even the last 4 star review mentions clearly how he was swindled out of $172 buying fake “mandatory insurance,” so not sure how that earns this shady place a 4 star. Also, the office IS NOT IN THE TERMINAL as they falsely advertise. Whoever said it’s walkable is wrong - unless you feel dragging your luggage across scrubland and a busy road with dirt kicked up into your face.
The manager is the guy that forced me to buy insurance, Luis Ceseña (who someone praised in an earlier review for not forcing them into a timeshare meeting - something I’ve never experienced from car rental in Cabo).
Price for four days through Orbitz was $4. Actually price after mandatory taxes and insurance (I can typically weasel out of this and even had my own Mexican insurance, but couldn't get out of it here) was $176. Know that you're going to pay more than you thought. Employee I dealt with was very friendly. Location is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the terminals and is walkable.
Should have checked the reviews on this place before i rented. Got scamed with everyone else with the ole bait and switch. Run!
Very bad customer service! Originally they’re tried to charge us tax on tax until we called them out for it. Then when we went to return the car they said we had a bunch of dents, which we didn’t anddd they told us we were an hour late in returning our car and thus charged us A FULL EXTRA DAY. When we told them that our paperwork shows had the time
Stamp and we aren’t late. They told us the time stamp shows the time in MEXICO CITY, which is an hour ahead of Cabo. We tried to dispute and asked to speak to the manager who didn’t do anything for us. Never ever again! The least they could have done would be to apologize for the wrong time and only charge an hour, but they didn’t and thus we will dispute! Do not go to them!!
The best car rental experience I've had at San Jose del Cabo airport, hands down. Ask for Luis Ceseña. No timeshare crap! Speedy check in and out. Received a late model 4WD 4 door Jeep. Will definitely be renting from Ace again.
Very deceptive. I will not try to rent from these guys again.
1st: Their location is not in the terminal as advertised.
2nd: Their off site location was under staffed. We were first in line, but it took them 30 minutes for them to finish with the two customers they were already working on when we got there. Complete chaos. By the time we left there was line of 6-8 people behind us. Hate to know how long they had to wait.
3rd: A reservation with confirmation number does not mean anything. They did not have the car we reserved. Nor did they put us in a larger car even though they had them on the lot, with us even willing to pay more. The agent offered us the larger car, we agreed on the price, then he got pulled away by another customer, and when he got back, he no longer had the car. We had reserved a SUV and all they could give us was a compact. Doesn't work for a family with small children. No apologies, no offer to remedy, no sympathy, no ownership of the problem nor wanting to fix it, as if it was routine. Never again.
Bait and switch..they rent you a cheap car, but charge you a pretty penny for insurance.
In Mexico they require additional insurance which they require upon renting a car. This is not disclosed when you make a reservation and is misleading on sites such as Expedia, etc. which claim that all fees and taxes are included.
