We had a good experience here, our daughter was sick, we were in and out in an hour and cost about $83 US which I thought was very reasonable. Got treatment and prescription and were happy. Dr spoke English but check-in staff spoke very little English, but enough to get us checked in.

Most of my experiences here have been very positive -- I have not had a hospital stay but have seen two doctors and my wife one. Two were excellent and one was OK. The prices are reasonable (much better than Hospiten for the same service). Online chat is very responsive and makes it very easy to schedule an appointment with a specialist.

Went here for my wife to give birth just to have them let her get all the way in and then say they had no rooms. We ended up having to pack her up mid delivery and go to another hosptial.

    WARNING! Rip-off administration! It's a SCAM!

This place has terrible administration and will rip you off! I had to go to the emergency room for a minor fall which left me with a fractured clavicle. I spent around 3 hours waiting for the doctor they SUPPOSEDLY called when I arrived to the hospital. By the end, I just wanted to leave to go across the street to go back to Hospiten, but security doesn't let you leave the room until your bill is paidand surprise surprise, they charge their emergency room by the hour. (My friends and I first went to the hospital across the street called Hospiten. When we got there we were told it was a 1 hour wait for the emergency room. In the end I appreciated their honesty at Hospiten and should have stayed had I known what was in store for me).

So after nearly 3 hours I got my friends who were waiting with me to check what was going on. Turns out my friends saw everything on the other side as it was happening, they just didn't think it was for me since there was no urgency or even much effort by the persons at the reception to reach the doctor. They saw the person at the reception get the message to call the doctor without actually trying to even call the doctor until being reminded an hour later that we were still waiting for the doctor. That's when this person tried to call once without success and then just left it at that until hours later, when I was getting so upset that I was trying to leave. That's when they actually called and reached the doctor who was then there in a matter of minutes (The doctor himself was great). Regardless of their major error, when I got home and finally get to reviewing bills etc, turns out I was charged for all that time. All together there was probably 15-20 minutes maximum spent on me, yet I was charged for over 3 hours of being in the emergency room. All the medical staff was very kind and apologetic towards me, it was very clear that this was a regular issue and also a major frustration of theirs as doctors working in a place with a terrible and unorganized administration.

Despite all this, I kept my cool and went back later to CostaMed to see what can be done. The 1st time I went I was told to come back earlier in the day. The second time I went back early, and I was told to leave contact information and that I would be contacted. I left my personal cell phone number and 2 email addresses to be sure I could be reached. That was a month ago, still nothing. Curious enough, when I went back the second time and that the person at the front desk called someone higher up to ask what to do next, the first question the person on the other end asked him was if my bill had already been paid. He confirmed that yes, twiceand then it seems once confirmed that I paid already, I never hear back from them.

If I do get this settled and that everything gets sorted, I will come back online to let everyone know. But for now, I strongly recommend Hospiten which is almost literally just across the street from CostaMed, right next to the entrance #4 of Playacar.

I am very pleased with the attention and service at COSTAMED Playa del Carmen.
The front staff greeted me in a very professional way, fast, friendly and polite.
I was experiencing an asthma attack ,fortunately the waiting time was short.
Dr. Alejandro Villanueva Javier, was very calm, down to earth, attentive and professional. Right away I knew I was in good hands.
I was kept there for a couple of hours, the right treatment was performed.
The nursing staff was very efficient and caring.
    The facilities spotless.
Costamed provides an excellent service, at a very reasonable price.

The doctors were kind and professional. By US standards, the cost was very reasonable about $70 for a doctor visit. The staff were kind. The facility was good. We also used Hospiten but they were really expensive for similar service. If I need a clinic/hospital in Playa again, I will go to Costamed.

A family member had an asthma attack and a good friend recommended to go to COSTAMED rather than Hospiten, for which I also found very bad reviews. We went and were immediately checked and rushed into the emergency care, a doctor acted very fast and gave all the instructions that started helping the patient very fast. They only made the necessary tests, x-ray and blood,to make sure there is no pneumonia and kept us there for a couple of hours to make sure the treatment worked and the patient was OK. The total charge was about 5000 pesos, very reasonable for an emergency room care, all medications, check ups, x-ray, blood work and doctor consultation fees. The doctor , Christian Cosio Valdez, was very knowledgeable, professional and attentive.I was really impressed, as we have been through these situations in the US and it was much more stressful there. Wonderful and very friendly bilingual staff.
