Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi (Hindustani: [ˈɪnːdɪrə ˈɡaːnd̪ʱi] (About this sound listen); née Nehru; 19 November 1917 – 31 October 1984) was an Indian stateswoman and central figure of the Indian National Congress.[1] She was the first and, to date, the only female Prime Minister of India. Indira Gandhi belonged to the Nehru–Gandhi family and was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Indian prime minister. Despite her surname Gandhi, she is not related to the family of Mahatma Gandhi. She served as Prime Minister from January 1966 to March 1977 and again from January 1980 until her assassination in October 1984, making her the second longest-serving Indian prime minister after her father.
Gandhi served as her father's personal assistant and hostess during his tenure as Prime Minister between 1947 and 1964. She was elected Congress President in 1959. Upon her father's death in 1964 she was appointed as a member of the Rajya Sabha (upper house) and became a member of Lal Bahadur Shastri's cabinet as Minister of Information and Broadcasting.[2] In the Congress Party's parliamentary leadership election held in early 1966 (upon the death of Shastri) she defeated her rival, Morarji Desai, to become leader, and thus succeeded Shastri as Prime Minister of India.
As Prime Minister, Gandhi was known for her political ruthlessness and unprecedented centralisation of power. She went to war with Pakistan in support of the independence movement and war of independence in East Pakistan, which resulted in an Indian victory and the creation of Bangladesh, as well as increasing India's influence to the point where it became the regional hegemon of South Asia. Citing fissiparous tendencies and in response to a call for revolution, Gandhi instituted a state of emergency from 1975 to 1977 where basic civil liberties were suspended and press was censored. Widespread atrocities were carried out during the emergency. In 1980, she returned to power after free and fair elections. She was assassinated by her own bodyguards and Sikh nationalists in 1984. The assassins, Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, were both shot by other security guards. Satwant Singh recovered from his injuries and was executed after being convicted of murder.
In 1999, Indira Gandhi was named "Woman of the Millennium" in an online poll organised by the BBC.[3]response / report this review -

Compared to other government hospitals of neighboring countries, it is one of the best. Still lack man power though. Separate division for heart, kidney, cancer and respiratory disease.

A state run hospital with best hematological and imaging services. Being a tertiary care hospital they have doctors available all 24 hours providing emergency and ICU care as well. The hospital also deals with medical of people coming for visa purpose. Tokens are distributed at 6pm. The fees for medical is 1300 mvr. You stand in a loooooong queue, get the token, pay the fees. Then go for blood test and Xray.
The next day you come back, collect reports and get a consultation done. Take your passport, photocopy of passport, employment letter and 2 passport size pictures with white background.response / report this review -

Always crowded. You have to wait in lomg q to do everything. I made an appointment for a doctor and they called me after 3.5 months by that time i have done consultation and removed a cyst and the only the scar was left. This kind of things happen to most of my friends at different times. Some doctors are really rude But nurses are very kind . Today i went to do fasting blood test due to long queue I thought i might not be able to do the test within the.time line so i took a ferry and went Villigilli with my friend. After the test I came back to Male and checked the queue number still 26 waiting ahead of me. thanks to my friend who took me to villingili and saved my time.

showed to doctor today cause i wasn't feeling well. dry-cough sneezing running nose. took medicine and got the fever down luckily. went to show the doctor to get medicine and a medical certificate for the job today. cause i wanted a medical certificate for job and the doctor didn't give me a medical certificate on purpose and they had MC's on the desk. i'm very disappointed with the service.

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) is a state-owned Multi-Speciality hospital, and one of two hospitals in Malé, Republic of Maldives. The hospital is located at the west end of Malé. The hospital is a gift from the Indian Government and is dedicated to Indira Gandhi. IGMH replaced the previous sole hospital, Central Hospital, located at the center of Malé. Central Hospital was later demolished and the location was leased to a private party by the Government to make another hospital.

This is the main hospital run by the government. It is the largest hospital in the country.
The service here is exceptionally bad, not the doctors, but the admin staff and nurses. The place is in need for major repair, renovation and expansion to accommodate the ever increasing demand.
The hospital is inadequately staffed (both doctors, nurses and administrative staff).
Service is slow and there is a very long wait before you get to see a specialist. Even on-visit consultations with on duty could take UpTo 2 hours before the doctor consults you.response / report this review -

services are free but the problem is to consult a doctor it takes more than 2 years .. i waitlisted to consult a doctor here on 4th december 2015 and now its one year but im still thousands away on the waitlist :(
