Fantastic two days. We stayed one night in a small village and saw no other tourists. It was great. Leo, our guide was a charming young man, with a wealth of knowledge about everything on the way. Only being at this company for a month, it's amazing how confident he is in his job. Everything was taken care of, the food was amazing thanks to our chef Aung Aung. Honestly though, there was always way too much to eat (a good or bad thing depending on how hungry your group is!). It's really nice that Ko Min doesn't take groups of larger than 6. This keeps it nice and intimate, and allows the group to visit a local person's home if the possibility arises. The trek itself is easy, but that's not the point. It's probably the easiest way to see something that isn't a tourist area, since it's going through the two towns that most people trek through, but not on the beaten path. Couldn't recommend it more and both Leo and Aung Aung were incredible. Thanks guys! Will be recommending you to everyone we hear is passing through Kalaw. Oh by the way, the higher price is certainly justified from what we heard from other groups that went on the popular trail.
Recently, I embarked on the three day, two night trek booked through Ko Min. It was a rich experience.
Our guides, Sounar and Leo were outstanding. They were friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. Throughout the trek, they shared information about plants, animals, local tribes and customs, and historical tidbits about Myanmar.
We chose the off the beaten path route which included many hills and beautiful scenery. Each day, we were given the opportunity to interact with locals. At night, we stayed at homestays.
Ko Min's company works with multiple families in the village to ensure spreading the wealth and not overloading one family. They also make donations to the villages to benefit the whole community. Further, they change their routes in order to ensure that the village's culture is not diminished by an ongoing flood of tourists. I appreciated both the company's and our guides' dedication to leading treks using a sustainable model.
Ko Min hired a chef, Ye Lin Pyin, to prepare meals throughout the three days. He is an incredibly talented chef, and it allowed additional ease during the trek as we weren't worried about staying healthy. The food that Ye Lin Pyin prepared was the best food of our whole two week vacation.
Ko Min was professional.
While their treks are a bit more expensive than other companies, it is well worth the additional cost. I strongly recommend trekking with Sounar, Leo, and Ye Lin Pyin through Ko Min, and if I return to Kalaw in the future, it would be an honor to trek with them again.
Thank you Sounar, Leo, Ye Lin Pyin, and Ko Min for the wonderful experience and cherished memories.
Ko Min completely understood that we wanted a two day trek around Kalaw avoiding popular routes whereas another very well regarded agency had suggested a route right on the main line to Inle! So we paid his small amount extra and set off with Ye Lay who was a fabulous guide, great English and very cheerful. We also had wonderful food from Ye Lin. Highly recommended.
Best best best trekking company! Me&my husband (Ray) we had such fantastic time, we need to thank to Kaman&Papu, one is a great tour guide, one is a master chef! I'm appreciate what you guys did. If you are in Kalaw, please dont miss the three days two nights trek of course with this company!!!
Ko Min is the best company out there. They take you away from the beaten path, away from all the tourists and into the real rural Myanmar. The guide knows a lot about the villagers, their traditions and the nature surrounding us. They pay the villagers well for home stays, respect the communities and the environment. I had a great time with Ko min. Our guide was knowledgeable and had a great sens of humor. The meals were exceptionmals. Would do it a again!
"Highlight of the whole trip"
First of all,I can't speak highly enough how great Ko Min Trekking company.
I had decided to use this company because of all the other great review and they use the less tourist route ,away from the beaten path. When I spoke to other who had done the more popular route, they said it wasn't worth it.as there would be so many other people both on the trek and also home stay. The groups they trekked in were so big 12 peoples that they never even spoke to their guides.
The trek itself was not too hard but challenging enough on the uphills.
Food excellent, scenery was excellent (and surprisingly diverse), guide excellent and accommodation was great. The overnight stay is, of course, very basic but an experience that we will never forget.
The price(25$/per day/person) was perfectly reasonable given the quality of our guide, route, food and home stay.Ko Min really does avoid the large groups and claim to pay the home stay families better than other companies.
Highly recommended.
Ko Min is still setting up a new office so you have to just call him and he'll meet you wherever your hotel/hostel is. He's hilarious, jolly, and very knowledgeable about the area. Our guide was Joe and he was fantastic. We went on routes less traveled and had very authentic interactions with locals. Joe helped us hold conversations with locals and ask them questions as well as providing lots of culture history/knowledge. Joe also gave us a lot of freedom with our day and was a ton of fun. The food is also absolutely amazing, each meal is a buffet of fruits and local foods that's prepared just before you arrive. I can't recommend these guys enough, by far the best thing I did in Myanmar.
We did the 2 day trekking with Ko Min from Kalaw to Inlay lake, with one night stopover in a monestary. Certainly one of the best experiences in our Myanmar visit. Nice landscape, very very nice local people we met on the way and Ko Min was an awesome guide, knowledgeable of everything we needed to know. Plenty of food on the way (midday, night, morning).
Highly recommend this trek with Ko Min or his colleague.
