Small town market, many options for fruits and vegetables. Lots of locally made handicrafts including paper and cotton umbrellas of many shapes sizes and colors, paper lanterns ofany shapes, sizes and colors, plenty of options for local Shan food and drinks. Clean, compared to many other markets I've encountered throughout Asia. Good atop for acquiring necessities before the long hike to Inle lake.

A typical open wet market. Got a chance to see their weekly bazar too, which was quite interesting. Lot of fresh vegetables and other produce was available. Good place to buy longies and other textile materials too. Negotiations seem to be an accepted practice.

Everything is local and the family atmosphere is warmer than expected. Traditional Shan foods are good.

It was really good to experience "market day" which happens once every five days. You could find a variety of regional products such as tea leaves, sunflower seeds, honey, avocados, oranges, etc with cheap price and I have to say the quality and taste is way better than it was in Yangon.

This is Kalaw central market. It is basically have all the daily and traditional essential items market. It carry the traditional herb, spices, chilli, pickles, snacks, dried seafood, poultry, meats, seafood, beans and handy craft items as well. It worth spending at least 2 hours to go through the market to see and experience the Kalaw culture. There have a dedicated section for Hawkeye food stores.

In Kalaw, a small hill-town (with an altitude of 1320 metres) founded by the British for whom the Burmese plains were too hot. Indeed, it was the chilliest place we visited throughout our trip and surprisingly, it was one of my popular even though we didn’t spend long there. It’s a peaceful town, most of the tourists who come here are hiking enthusiasts and trekkers as the hills surrounding the town offer fabulous opportunities if you are so inclined.

It's surprisingly clean for such a bazaar in that town. As usual, most Shan natives are very nice, they patiently explained some old artifacts & even demonstrated usages without asking to buy afterwards. One can simply get everything of what Kalaw has, in one place. Food court, which I highly recommend, is where you can get most tasty & budget Shan traditional foods in town.
