The hotel is very nice and unusual, especially the communal space, both outdoor and indoor, is very carefully thought and the view on the lake is incredible. There are monkeys playing on the edges of the premises, which add to the atmosphere. The hotel is located only a couple of minutes away from the archeological site and has immediate access to the lake, which is great for cycling around to kill some time.
The staff is very attentive and kind, really helpful to suggest activities and things to do in the area, without being pushy trying to make you organise things through them.
The food was very good, although more expensive than the other options in town.
The window of our room overlooked directly the garden outside, so to get changed and/or have a bit of privacy we had to keep the curtain down, which is a shame as the view from the window (beyond the garden) is beautiful as you can see the lake.
Overall a really nice place - I would go back for sure.response / report this review -

The best hotel and restaurant in Sri Lanka in my experience. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for exceptional food, the best views of the lake and the highest levels of service. We were extremely lucky to be in the restaurant on the same night that the president of Sri Lanka was dining. This is testimony to the level of service of the waiting staff and superb culinary skills of the chefs. The menu is perfectly formed to include all types of cuisine. We are four days in and have been thoroughly impressed with each and every meal. The level of service from the staff is second to none. They genuinely care about you as a customer and will do anything to help where they can. Head of guest services Kanchana has an infectious smile and real enthusiasm for what he does. The other remarkable employee was Priyantha, who met us on arrival and has tailored our stay to our specific requirements every step of the way. This personalised service is expected of five star hotels such as this one I know, but the manner that Priyantha conducts himself is one of great attention to detail and an ability to make his guest’s wishes a reality. Really so impressed with everything about this place and am so pleased to have discovered it. I would recommend booking early for dinner to avoid disappointment as it can get very busy.
Also on a side note the gardeners, pool staff, door staff, reception, security guards and everyone else we passed each day have been welcoming and friendly to a greater degree than we have experienced elsewhere. The employees here make you feel like you are wanted. Thank you so much for making this holiday an exceptional one to remember for many years to come. Largest hetel room I've ever seen :) Wonderful location at the edge of the lake. Great service from the team led by Kanchana. There must be a very good chef too. Excellent food; specially the breakfast.

We stopped there for lunch and food was so damn expensive. We ordered Rice and curry for 11 ppl but Food was not enough for 11 ppl. After taking abt half an hour to prepare food they requested further 10 mins and asked us to order fresh juices so we ordered the juices and as soon as we placed the juice order they said the food is ready. They delivered the juices after about 30 mins. We ordered juices just bcz they said that they need more time to prepare food but as soon as we placed the juice order they brought food. Highly dissatisfied with the service and the prices. Will never visit this place or recommend to anyone.

Rip off of the highest order. If you are Sri Lanka and if santa isn't filling your wallet avoid this place like the plague. We drove from Water gardens to Polonnaruwa to show our two kids Polonnaruwa ruins etc. Planned to have lunch at the "Rest House" as we fondly remembered it. Upon arrival, to our horror we were told that they only cater to prior orders and that we could have lunch if we paid and ordered before going site seeing in Polonnaruwa. We agreed and asked for the menu which was NUTS. Rice and curry was 2,000 per head. We were staying at a five star hotel and there, meals were priced at 700-1000 per head. This place is still a glorified road side rest House and charging fine dining rates for this sort of food is daylight robbery. Naturally we left, completed our site seeing and went back to water garden where we had a hearty lunch. I am disgusted to say the least. Shame on you, management at Ceylon Hotels Corporation!

In todays age, I was surprised to see such open discrimination .. Hotel license should revoked, for practicing racial practices.. very disappointed with such policies.. Google pls add this hotel to black listed hotels..

The location of this place is situated on a unesco heritage site. Which by it self makes this a very unique property. By giving it a well deserved face lift This hotel has been relaunched as EKHO LAKE HOUSE Polonnaruwa. It boasts about its heritage and historical value. Visited by Queen Elisabeth in 1954 to enjoy her luxurious stay In polonnaruwa this hotel still has certain furniture Witch was provided for her majestys stay. This hotel also boasts of being one of the very few places on earth to sit back relax and enjoy A glass Of wine while feasting your eyes on the breathtaking view of a much vivid and colorful sunset.

Hotel is very quiet - e.g. everyone in bed by 9pm - unless this is you I'd say give this whole town a miss. Hotel itself had friendly staff, only dinner choice was a buffet though which wasn't amazing for vegetarians and quite overpriced - nowhere else to eat nearby. Also this place has a lot of insects, not their fault - they come from the lake, but something to bear in mind. Nice and peaceful during the day.
