This is the best place to go in Colombo if you are looking for Buddhist literature and paraphernalia. The place is very easily accessible. The shop is very spacious and soothing. There is a vegetarian restaurant at the ground level that claim to offer organic food. It looks very popular.

Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Mandiraya is a Buddhist Publication and Information Centre situated in Colombo, which came to life in May 2011, to coincide with the commemoration of “Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi” which marks the 2600th year of the Enlightenment of Lord Buddha.
Wheelchairs accessible entrance and parking facilities are available.

Sri Sambuddhathva Jayanthi Mandiraya has a indoor auditorium in its 5th and 6 floors which could accommodate approx. 400 - 500 spectators. It is equipped with 2 elevators to move through floors with a staircase. Auditorium is air conditioned and seating is fixed with cinema type chairs. Outdoor Parking lot available for parking.

If u are sitting for the British council exams one of the test venues will be held here. Why I'm saying this is because it's quite difficult to find the place for the first time. Also for those who are looking for the swings educational consultants they would be on the 4th floor of this building.

Very interesting place. Many Buddhism books available. We bought our first Buddha statue here with reasonable price. They are also selling many other praying accessories for example joss stick, candle holder, stupa etc.

Though it's marked as a book store the place itself is a multifunctional building dedicated facilitate the needs of the Buddhists. The ground floor features a Bank of Ceylon and couple of restaurants. In the next floors you have a brach of Buddhist cultural center which offers wide range of books and supplies belonging to various categories which are needed by the worshipers and pilgrims. It includes but not limited to ata pirikara, Buddha statues in all sizes, Buddhist flags, umbrellas, robes for monks, incense sticks etc.. The staff there is very friendly and very helpful.

Next few floor features conference halls and auditoriums. Classes and other activities are organized there to learn various aspects of Buddhism.

This is the largest book shop for Buddhist publications in Colombo. The staff is very helpful and supportive. The place is very quiet and calm. They also sell Buddha statues and items for monks. Wheelchair accessible parking and entrance is available.

Venerable Kirama Wimalajothi Thero is the founder of the Buddhist Cultural Centre. After the dedicated religious service he had provided for the people of Malaysia, Singapore and USA for nearly 20 years, he returned to Sri Lanka to serve the people of his own country.

He started his journey at a small place at, Nadimala, Dehiwala with just a few lay devotees. He went in search of some books on Buddhism and Buddhist Culture etc. To his dismay he found that the books he was looking for were not available at any of the leading bookshops in Sri Lanka. Without resorting to blame others for this pathetic situation he started collecting books on Buddhism and allied subjects.

Buddhist Cultural Centre was established to fill this gap by collecting reading materials etc. for the use of the people of the area as well as in other countries.

BCC was opened on January 2, 1992 under the patronage of Ven. Dr. K. Sri Dhammananda, Chief Sanghanayake of Malaysia and Singapore. Most Ven. Aggamahapanditha Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Thero, Most Ven. Madihe pannasiha Maha Thero, Aggamaha Panditha Ven. Dr. Walpola Rahula Thero, many other maha theros, Buddhist Monks, and distinguished Buddhist lay devotees were present at the opening ceremony.

As Sinhalese Dhamma books were out of print at that time, Ven. Wimalajothi Thero also opened a printing press for that purpose in 1995. Also a mobile Buddhist Bookshop was launched in 1995. This was necessitated due to non availability of Buddhist books in all areas including Colombo and to increase basic knowledge in Buddhism by promoting reading habits.

BCC has grown over the years and now it is the most prestigious Buddhist library in Sri Lanka, as well as the world’s biggest Theravada library.

In 2011, a gorgeous building designated Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Mandiraya was erected at the heart of Colombo in commemoration of 2600 years of the advent of Buddhism. It consists of 16 storeys and includes auditorium facilities for conferences, seminars, convocations…etc. It also incorporates a bookshop operating under the BCC at Nedimala, Dehiwala, probably the largest of its kind containing books on Buddhism in the world. It is a centre of Buddhist activity wherein seminars and classes are held on various Buddhist themes as meditation and also correspondence courses in Buddhism are conducted for the benefit of those who are desirous of imbibing Buddhist wisdom. Moreover, local and foreign languages are taught there as well as a Buddhist counseling service is carried out; and many more facets to its multifarious Buddhist activities.

I came here for my AL examinations. There was only a little space for parking. I had to park on the road. The halls were good. The waiting space for parents is horrible, which is the Ground floor, because there's no AC at all.
