  We saw hundreds of elephants gathering around a reservoir while visiting the park in March. We also managed to see lots of birds, monkeys, peacocks and an eagle. It was a rare and beautiful experience. Landscape was amazing too.
  I just remove 1 star because I think the use of jeeps could be optimized : I felt a bit uncomfortable seeing such a huge amount of half empty jeeps

  Extremely beautiful landscape where complete park is around Kaudulla Tank. In the wet season the grass and the tree line is lush.
  In certain seasons the largest elephant gatherings happen here from all parks around.
  Must target visits in early morning on near evening. Its not hard to spot some wildlife.
  You can arrange a safari vehicle from nearby for a reasonable price for a half day trip. Those vehicles are bit jumpy but made to give you the best view. Park guide is not compulsory if the driver knows the tracks.

  the main attraction is elephants, but I managed to catch a glimpse of crocodiles, peacocks and other species of birds as well. the national park consists mainly of dense rainforest with open grassland and wetland. an amazing and lovely experience.

  The experience is really lovely. But, these vehicles who rush at the elephants needs to know to maintain the right distance and give the elephants their space. When we were there, a herd of elephants wanted to crossover to the other and a bunch of jeeps were right in the middle blocking the way and each and every jeep trying to give their guests the best possible instagrammable picture. We need to understand that while enjoying the view of these amazing creatures we need to maintain the sanity and give them their space to move freely. #natnzin

  There are numerous jeep-safari-firms that offer trips into the Kaudulla National Park. You might want to do some comparing, but my impression is that it's mostly "same-same". We went on a 3 hour safari, and that's plenty. A short trip before we enter the park, and then again about 20-30 minutes of drive into the park while watching diferent birds and other animals you might happen to see. Suddenly the trees are gone, and you see this huge open area. This is were you very often get to see a lot of elephants. You get up and close - we were as close as 3-5 meters with our jeep! Amazing.
  
  During rainy season they move to a different park. Be sure to do a quick checking around before you decide which park you go to to optimalize your chances of getting a "up and close" encounter with these enormous animals.

  One of the best place to watch Asian Elephant in Sri Lanka. You can see large numbers here. Roughly 100-250 at a time. However, some days these groups will cross to Minneria National park and you will miss the chance. Anyway, the best time is the last afternoon. All these giants will gather around the Kaudulla tank. There is a famous giant tusker, who rarely visit the place. If you are really lucky, you will be able to catch this guy as well

  Perfect place to visit when you are in sri lanka. We vistited in December and we saw around 50 elephants, monkeys, beards and other wild animals. Great jeep ride around national park. Best time to visit is after 2pm. Take cap and camera to save awesome landscape views. Watch out for heads when you are riding jeep without roof. Whole travel took from 2 to 3 hours. I can honestly recommend that safari. Enjoy! ☺

  Wildlife and safari is an excellent combination. This place is the perfect example!
  You'll see a large number of elephants here, Its almost like its the Kingdom of Elephants.
  
  Tip 1 : Get there early in the morning or in the evening!
  Tip 2 : Do not disturb these creatures, specially the ones who stray away from the heard!
  Tip 3 : Take enough water.
