A great place to observe the nature closely and with serenity. Safari jeeps are available at the park entrance as well as well as en route to the park entrance. Prices are very reasonable. Elephants, deers, pocupines, wild boars, variety of aves are available in abundance. Try to visit the place during the rainy season (mostly during Nov to Feb). Safari jeep drivers are very helpful and lenient and provide a tour of around 2.5 hours. They have an excellent knowledge of the trails within the park as well as emergency situations such as elephant attacks.
Try to complete the tour via a safari jeep (good for you as well as your vehicle)

Awesome wild experience at this nature park. Many elephants can be seen in this attraction. Provincial boundary of Central and North Central lies within the park.

Number of visitors visiting this park is somewhat minimal rather than other wild parks in the island 🌴

This is the third biggest national Park in Sri Lanka. Good surface area with animals such as: Elephants, deers, and plenty of birds. If you want to watch wild elephants in their natural habitat, Wasgamuwa national park is one of the best in Sri Lanka. These elephants are know as "Vil Ali", because they have fodder & water throughout the year. If you are lucky you can see larger heards like 70-80 elephants but in some days you can't see even one. There are 3 bungalows in side the park. Mahaweli & Wawulebe are located near Mahaweli river, those two bungalows are powered by solar panels, But Kadurupitiya bungalow has 3 phase current. There is no cafeteria and so I suggest you bring your own food and drinks with you, as the closest store is in about 2-3 KMs. The park was not crowded with crazy safari jeeps and we felt like we had the whole place to our selves.

Really good place to study about wildlife.. Evening is the best time to watch animals. You can see elephants, deers, peacock, buffalo and so on and also they provide camping and bungalow facilities inside the park

Went with a bunch of friends in Sep 2017, stayed one night at Wavulebe Bunglow, which was peaceful n spacious, situated on the river bank. It was the dry season, hence the river was muddy n smelly. Not much animals were spotted apart from Elephants in the evening & a few herds of Deer & couple of Sambar Deer mainly in the morning. The national park is still somewhat not crowded as much other popular one's, yet the river was polluted with polyethylene and broken glass.

Wasgamuwa is well known its abundant wildlife population, wilderness setting and home of several interesting ancient sites. Wasgamuwa is distinguished from other parks by having a full complement of predators of which bears are particularly noteworthy. Ecological research undertaken in the park suggests that the density of bears in Wasgamuwa is probably higher than anywhere else in Sri Lanka. The name Wasgamuwa may also derive from an ancient meaning as a gathering place for bears. Part of Wasgamuwa was declared a Strict Nature Reserve in 1938 and additional areas added to become Wasgamuwa National Park on 07 th August 1984. The park covers almost 37,062.9 hectares of which most is wilderness areas with no visitation.
