It's really wonderful experience travelling to badulla by rain nice green environment towards the journey you can book a train ticket or can obtain on site tickets but prefer the early booking

The station is clean and well maintained with plenty of seats. Bathrooms usable but deffinetly not a nice experience. There is a few kiosks with drinks, snacks etc.

Kandy railway station is quite good place when compared to other Railway Stations in Sri Lanka other than Colombo Railway Station. It has all the basic facilities. You can get a train to almost every corner in the country.

One of the must visit place in Kandy situated within the city. Very nice place. Clean and Well maintained. Some are use this place to rest as this place is not crowded at all. But toilets are kept very bad and smelly. No enough parking.

This a place very nice and highly maintained. Usually not that busy and also not modernized at all. Restrooms and not good or pleasant at all. Furthermore it is very close to Kandy city just a 500m walk plus it is located near the main bus stand making it very convenient.
Also notice the parking is very limited so that is a downside too.

It's amazing journey from Colombo to Kandy by train. It's awesome. In the station Sri Lankan people cannot take the pictures from quality cameras but that's not belong to foreigners. Station is always crowded.

Took the train from Kandy to Newara Elija. Great experience.
DON’T do the trip in Tourist class. But take the next class (2nd I think). Lot’s of space, you can open the windows and hang out of the door while riding. Sellers come on to the train selling food, had one of the best curries from one of them. Great experience

I traveled from Kandy to Colombo by train. It was an amazing journey. Very comfortable when compared to traveling in the bus.

Amazing train journey from Kandy to Ella! That would get 5 out of 5 stars if I was reviewing that. If you get on this train, be sure to pay the extra money for reservation in 2nd class. Avoid 1st class and unreserved tickets.

So; back to the real review. The train station release reserved tickets 'x' amount of days in advance and these tickets are usually purchased by 'ticket touts' who sell them for 5 times the price (At least). So when you come to buy a reserved ticket, they are usually sold out. Having said that, and without sounding like too much of a hypocrite, it is definitely worth paying the touts for the reserved seat (especially if going on a long journey).

More needs to be done by 'whoever' to tackle the ticketing issues

Located at the heart of Kandy city. Railway transportation is the fastest way to reach Kandy city avoiding heavy traffic.

However, the railway station is poorly maintained and kind of untidy. Hence, given three stars.

Easy enough to find out where you're going. Beware of inflated tuk tuk prices surrounding the station though.
