Its a monument that reminds us of the cruelty of LTTE memorizing the event of slaying buddhist bhikkus(monks) traveling by a bus in 2nd of June, 1987. The leading Hon. Haegoda Sri Indrasara thero died during the incident along with his 30 student monks most of who are very young in their age. The driver, conductor and another gentleman is said to be died during the incident as well. The bus is preserved along with statues of the priests show the big picture of the incident. The place is now a buddhist temple.

A memorial museum had been inaugurated by president Mahinda Rajapakse in Aranthalawa, Ampara in remembrance of the Aranthalawa massacre of 1987. The bus in which the Buddhist monks travelled has been preserved and the massacre is portrayed through sculptures by sculptor Anil Amarapura. The LTTE killed 31 Bikkhus including Ven. Hegoda Indrasara Thera on June 2, 1987.
