Mt. Takao is a great mountain. There are so many trails that you can take on the mountain as well as many animals that live there. If you go in the winter, you are less likely to get hurt by some of the danger animals that live on the mountain like snakes and a type of bee that you can see at the Takao 599 museum which is very close to the mountain. It's a popular attraction for Japanese people and foreigners so you want to be sure you pack a lunch, but they do have a restaurant at the top of the mountain in case you forget. I went with an Airbnb guide under the experiences tab which is definitely worth it as his knowledge about the mountain and it's history made it a lot more interesting than simply to hike it alone without knowledge of the Japanese language. They do have gift shops near the bottom of the mountain. They also have a food stand before you reach the top that sells some interesting food that you should definitely check out.
Nice place for an outing. Prepare a lunchbox and a mat for proper picnic. Bathroom queue is long, even more so when it's peak season. Watch your trash because there is no available trashbin. Wear something comfortable for a quite hiking/tracking experience
Great scenic views. A lot of school kids for day trip. One advice, get off at Takao Station and walk up the path. A lot of people so your get loss. Google maps gave me a longer route but bus ride and views where great. By the way, always ask train and bus staff. Japan people on the transit system are super friendly and helpful.
Nice easy day trip from Tokyo. Lots of different paths to take so accessible to all. Interesting shrines along the way and a beautiful waterfall as well. It can be crowded, so best to take the nature trails instead of the pavement. Nice views, though it can be too cloudy to see Fuji
This is the best mountain for beginner hikers yet the pro hikers can challenge them with different trials. Amazing scenery and great experience. It is also suitable for kids. I went there with my 2 daughters 4 and 8 years. We all enjoyed a lot
