Lovely and interesting historical site. Expensive and very crowdly.
Little Petra, not conseiled by guides, is instead a very true and natural site. From here, is possible to arrive to Petra monastrery from behinde, from passing by canyons. Really good experience, to do with a local guide for 10 jods from Little Petra.
Jordan Pass conseiled.

Don't worry I'm still with you lol. Isn't this Al Siq just so amazing. A natural gorge, it's narrow in parts and just so high up to 180m in parts, that you may feel a little claustrophobic but the positive is, the gorge shields you from the blazing sun above and that scorching desert heat. It's also a beautiful gorge, made of multi-pink natural coloured sandstone, a hallway if you like, a long winding path that leads you into the "Lost City of Petra".

It's nothing short of amazing and certainly builds up your expectations on what's ahead of you, the famous 45m-high Al Khazneh, more commonly known as The Treasury.

Towards the end of the Siq you'll get to see your first glimpse of the famous ancient tomb carved into Petra's cliff face, and it's a beautiful feeling when you do. Then you'll step out of the gorge and you'll be standing in bewilderment at the most iconic of all of Petra's ruins.

Did you know that the Siq is a natural geological fault split apart by tectonic forces and forming a magnificent canyon approximately 1.2km in length and 3-12m wide and with majestic walls varying between approximately 90m to 180m in height. It's quite a narrow path in places and you feel trapped between huge rich colored vertical walls. But don't worry, you'll be fine just drink plenty of water, keep away from the horses and their conmen handlers! You're almost there now!!!

Beautiful entry and processional way into the heart of the capital of the Nabatean kingdom. Keep an eye on multiple beytils (carved rectangles with or without eyes meant to represent a deity) on the rock face as well as water conduits (you might find three channels on a given stretch) and rock inscriptions in Greek and Nabatean script. One rock even looks like an elephant!

At the end of the Siq, the narrow corridor opens up to Wadi al-Jarra where the fabled Treasury facade faces squarely on the Siq exit. The experience is one to remember.

The many colored wonder of speechless awe.
This tremendous megalithic " hallway" of carved and natural rock is a ongoing conglomeration of change. The color of the rock walls change depending on the season, the weathér, the humidities.After 8 visits its still awe-inspiring and different. Dont forget to buy your Jordan Pass when you buy your visitors visa as its worth it for the repeat visits it allows to Jordan's many rich historical sites

Bab al Siq is the only entrance to the city of Petra, passing through a very narrow defile that has been naturally carved in the red stone mountains.
It's a treat to walk through the narrow defile that leads to the city of Petra. At places, the defile gets so narrow that it is hard to see the sky. The red stone walls of the defile at many places are at 90 degrees to the ground.
The path across the defile has been very well maintained and there are rest areas enroute. Total length of the defile is around 8 km.
If one is planning to walk, must carry water along and wear shoes that comfortable for a long walk.

It leads to the city. To see trees growing in the crevices and fighting for life. To see the different colors in the walls. Beautiful.

This passage way is a welcome relief from the sun. The engineering that allowed water to flow via channels on either side of this canyon completely boggles my mind. The natural colours of the rock change colours just like a chameleon as the sun hits them at different parts of the day.

It is nice and cool in the Siq. Once you get out into the main city it can be very hot and also before you reach the Siq coming from the main entrance. Enjoy the narrow passage way and the easy walking as the rest of the city does not have the easy walking nor the comforting shade.
