This was one of the few restaurants on Myvatn that looked appealing. We didn't stay overnight, just a day trip from Akureyri. So we had coffee and ice cream. It was not only the best ice cream I've ever had it was beautiful. Definitely recommend.
Best meal we had in Iceland! Everything was amazing! From the coffee to the desserts! The burger was Outstanding! All the plates we tried where excellent quality and tasty!
Such an amazing farm to table restaurant. We even got to pet the cows! We got the special and were amazing by the quality of food. The smoked char was my favorite. Also, the geysir bread was to die for! It bakes for almost an entire day on hot geysir rocks!
Food is excellent but very pricey. Appetizer portions are very small, especially considering price. Wait staff brusque.
Fun place with great food. If you like burgers you have to get their burger, it's phenomenal!
First rate cafe in a heavenly gorgeous location. Prices are normal for quality Islandic food - that's pretty pricy - and the food quality is first rate. Soups are hand made, and rich and savory; perfect for a wintry day. I am sure they will be fine for a blustery summer day as well
This is a very special restaurant. You can see they feed and milk the cow. right after they milk, they let you try the milk. I personally like the lamb shank more then prime lamb. Lamb shank is so tender and soft. They is alot souviner to choose from.
Very cosy place right next to the ring road at Mývatn lake where you can take a look at the cows and watch the lake and nature. I had one of the best hamburger I have tried, so delicious.
Amazing experience! It’s very cozy and the food is delicious. The service staff is very attentive and friendly!
Great little restaurant/guesthouse tucked away on a farm next to myvatn. Well cooked food with all local (farm-sourced!) ingredients. The burger was solid and the smoked lamb was interesting/delicious -- come here around sunset for killer views over the lake. A tad on the $ side (but comparable for Iceland) with 3,000+ isk burgers
Great place to have food. I had a fresh burger and gulas soup. They grow what they serve. Modern atmosphere and great service. One of my favorite places in Iceland. I’d definitely come again.
Great stop to have food. Homemade Bread, Burger from beef from their own farm, cheese from their own milk. It doesn't get more local.
You're can visit the cowshed which is great fun for kids while you wait for the food. The interior of the cafe is adjacent to the cowshed and has a modern Scandinavian look.
We would note that you should have a reservation if you want to eat here. We were lucky to get in without a reservation, but they only have a handful of tables for non-reservations.
The food was wonderful! It was well prepared and delicious. The potato cake was both crispy and creamy. It was perfect! The lamb was perfectly cooked and the salad was delightful. The hamburger was wonderful.
The service was very good. The restaurant was nicely decorated and clean.
One interesting feature is that the are with the non-reservation tables has a window looking onto the cow feeding area. It was neat to see the cows eating, however, most of the view is of the backends of the cows closest. So be prepared for that view..They did have some calf's, who you could see when they poked their heads out of their pen.
We would highly recommend the Cowshed, and when we visit Iceland again we will make sure to stop here.with a reservation.
One of the best burgers I've had!! Really!! The farm is beautiful and it overlooks the lake and the red roof farm houses. Prices are on the high end of average for Iceland. Well worth the stop. Make sure to check out the nature baths (Jardbadsholar) afterward.
From the service to the food to the schnapps, we loved this place. It was so good we ate here two nights in a row. Big portions, excellent flavors, and fresh tasting. Get the lamb shanks and try the Angelica or rhubarb schnapps!
One beverage order was wrong, but I liked it so I didn't send it back. When they realized the mistake, we were given a shot of rhubarb schnapps on the house.
Don't forget to visit the cows! Ask for samples of fresh milk too. We drank ours still warm.
Good food for the area, and cool that their dairy products are from right there on the farm. As a part time vegan though, kinda sad watching the cows kept the way they are from inside the restaurant. Not that they were mistreated in any way, just that they are confined to small spaces while being fed/milked.
This place is amazing! We came for lunch after the cold windy hike. Our Icelandic friend recommended us to come here and try especially their cheese and milk and we were not disappointed. We choose the burger for lunch and it was a good size burger with lovely seasoning. Slightly chilled homemade mayonnaise matched with their succulent beef, mozzarella, onion and tomato. On the side they had a bake potato and a small salad. This is easily the best burger I've ever had. Was saddened that we aren't able to buy their cheese as they use it all for the restaurant. Do come back for breakfast or in the afternoon at 5:30 where you can get a glass of cow milk straight from the sauce. Highly recommend everyone to come here to this cute family business.
Raw smoked lamb and geysir bread is excellent - and a grand view of Lake Myvatn as well
If you want Gourmet Icelandic food made fresh and local, definitely eat here. I'm a burger Junkie, and its safe to say I had one of the best burgers I've ever had at this restaurant. However, be prepared to spend two to three times more than you would elsewhere.
The atmosphere is unique in that the milking cows are located next to the dining tables, separated only by a glass wall. Unfortunately, one oversight with this design makes the restaurant smell like manure, but you get used to the smell after a few minutes.
Overall, if you're doing a road trip around the island or otherwise find yourself stopping around the lake near lunchtime or dinnertime, I would make this place a priority.
Had lunch here as part of the tour I did around the area. The venue is nice and very touristic. The food was good, but nothing really outstanding.
