Clean, but small and worn room. Broken lamps and missing lamp cover. Front desk service not too good, and when we checked out at 5 am to go to the airport, the night shift was sitting in the dining room, drinking vodka with a friend. He had not taken out breakfast for us, as he promised before we went to sleep.

Went to 5 hotels but all fully booked but saw the Salvation Army Guesthouse and decided to give it a try.

I was very surprised how friendly the staff. She even showed us the rooms before the we booked the rooms. We went for the single rooms.

Rooms are very clean. Basic with bed, duvet, pillow, towel, dressing table and a cupboard. There's a sink and mirror in the rooms too.

Highly recommended but the sad news is, it will be closed down from August as the building has been sold and it will be converted into a proper hotel.

I stayed here for nearly a week and was quite pleased with the accommodations. It's centrally located near the heart of downtown, and the rooms are among the cheapest in the city. The rooms and common area were impeccably clean, and the bathrooms are sanitized daily. One drawback is that if you're heading outside afterhours, you have to leave your room key with the desk attendant--that way the prevent you from bringing any 'unauthorized' visitors into the guesthouse.

Overall, I would recommend this play to friends.

Very affordable place to spend the night close to the heart of Reykjavík. But even by youth guesthouse standards, it left something to be desired in size and the condition of individual rooms.
