Good service, clear instructions and helpful advice about driving in iceland. Car was a little smaller than I expected for "mid sized." And returning the car took longer than I expected because I had to wait for them to get into the car and walk around and check everything and then park it. I am used to that being done afterwards and me just getting billed if there's an issue. Otherwise good though. And free coffee and water, for what it's worth.

The experience was going great with Sad cars until the delivery of the car. Unfortunately and ironically the name SADcars proved to be accurate. When we picked up the car at the Reykjavik offices we were given a manual car instead of an automatic car we ordered online. We talked about this and promptly they excused the mistake and even gave us a 50 Eur refund for the error right away. We were very happy for that professionalism. Unfortunately there was a problem after that, a very serious problem of misinformation. They warned people at the office that the only thing not covered by insurance would be things such as damage to the down of the car due to river crossing or door damage due to strong winds, those kind of things, obviously due to mistakes made by the driver. Nobody warned us about gravel insurance, something that in my view should be an obvious advice for somebody that is going to travel thru rural areas. During our trip there were very strong winds (very normal in Iceland) and I noticed a microscopic chip on the front windshield during our trip. For our surprise sad cars made us pay 200 Eur upon delivery due to that microscopic chip. It was not our fault, it was due to the strong winds, not bad driving just bad weather, worst than that, nobody told us about that insurance (which is apparently common) which we would have obviously paid for if it was the case, if had we know. It seems that they did it on purpose to not inform clients on apparent common problems in order the get more profit. In the end, its not a low cost car rental company, just a normal car rental company that makes profit from misinformation more than by the cars it selves.

Best and Cheapest car rental on Iceland. I have rented from them twice: first time in 2014 and second time in 2018. Good cars, hassle-free experience, best price.

Had a very cheap, no-fuss experience with SADcars. They shuttled us from the airport quickly and got us set up with our car within a half hour. The car worked beautifully throughout our stay and returning it was painless. Highly recommended!

Overall, our experience with SAD cars was positive. We got an amazing 4x4 cars for a very attractive price. I reckon the same car would cost us at least 2x with any other rental company in Iceland. The car was duly maintained and clean. The only complaint we have is that we haven't received any notification by mail about moving the premises to another location in Reykjavik. Same happened when we tried to return the car to the premises close to the airport, which were closed! And we were so stressed out because we had to catch the flight. The staff were nice, however you can get the impression that this is a low-cost company. Nevertheless, we would use their services again. It's totally worth it!

we have arrived on time but we had to wait about an hour to rent a car because there had no sad car stuff at the office at that time. but as the office situated in a bus hostel so we could wait in a comfortable caffeteria. sad cars stuff was nice enough to tell us everything about road conditions or nice spot to go with child.we are satisfied with renting a car from them.

Very Good Experience with sadcars! The staff is just so nice. We called them in the morning because we spontaneous wanted to rent a car. They said "sure, we can pick you up at 12 o'clock at your hotel" and so it was. Arriving at their office it was very uncomplicated and we got a very nice cheap car. It was pretty new as well. Two days later we had to give the car back :( we asked the pretty lady where the next bus stop is because we wanted to go to the city centre. Another guy from the crew said if we wait a few minutes he can take us with him because he drives in the centre anyways :)
Thank you guys for everything :)
(Already missing the car :( :D)

Very efficient pick up. Had to wait a bit longer than 30 min for a ride to the airport terminal after dropping the car at the airport location. That small issue aside it was a good and relatively cheap service.

This is an interesting place to rent from. All of their cars are second hand so they all are a little rough around the edges. We rented from them two different times. The first time we got a Toyota RAV4 and it was literally on its last leg. Our experience with that car was not good. Instead of enjoying the sites I was more worried about if the car would make it up the hill. After returning that car I asked if for our next rental we could get something a little more reliable as we planned to do lots of driving on our second leg. SADcars came through and gave us a newer vehicle, which actually turned out to be great! My suggestion would be if you decide to go with SADcars to email them prior if you plan on doing lots of driving so that way you may get a better vehicle. If you plan to just drive around the city I think any of their vehicles will work. I found having a car with cruise control was a life saver for the long drives. Overall the experience was okay. I would probably go with a different company if I did this again, but they were very quick and attentive to my concerns, which I appreciate.

Everything worked smooth, we rented a regular car for 2 days, we never had a problem with the car! We rented at the Reykjavik office and left it at Keflavik at 04.00, there was no problem (they have people at Keflavik 24/7), we just had to pay an extra fee. They also give you a ride to the airport from the office there, it's about 5-10 minutes from the Terminal. Recommended!

Got an automatic Ford Focus that rolled over 100k km driven while I was driving it two days around the place. The car worked perfectly - it started instantly, drove without hesitation, handled gravel roads (not F roads!) with ease and only used 6.5l/100km even when growling nicely in sports mode. Plus it was half the price of automatic cars from other companies. Pay attention to potholes on the roads and you will be fine!

Good service and friendly staff. They rent used cars, but they work fine. We had a 1994 Toyota Rav4 with no issues.

Good quality and price. I had a "Group X" Toyota Yaris. Though it had extensive body damage, over 250,000 miles and was dirty, it drove just fine (which is all I cared about). The initial inspection was rushed and I later found the coolant was very low. Check fluid levels, tires, and paperwork before you sign and drive off. It was given and returned with an empty tank. I paid $7.2/gal with the car getting at least 30mpg. Excellent way to do the Golden Circle.

The best car rental place. They don't pressure you into buying extras, they don't care about little scratches, and you can call to extend your rental time if you want. Very cool, very cheap, very worth it.

Where to begin When we first received our car, we pointed out that the condition of the vehicle was extremely poor and that the tires would not last much longer. To our expectations, we experienced 2 flat tires on this trip. Flat tires that we had to personally deal with because of the incompetence of the staff at Sadcars. In addition, the headlights on the car were so poor that driving around Reykjavik at night was considerably dangerous. Finally, the windshield wipers were also extremely poor and if you have ever been to Iceland, you'll understand the importance of good windshield wipers. When we finally had enough, on our second flat tire, we took the car to a shop to get a professional inspection and repair done. The mechanics at the shop were astounded that this car was even rented out in the first place. They said the condition of the car wasn't road legal. Long story short, they rented us an legally ineligible vehicle. Not only was our experience poor, our vehicle unsafe, but it was also an illegally rented out car.

Extremely poor experience with this company.

Exactly what I expected. The cars are well-traveled and like most rental companies, you should take pictures of the car before and after. You need a lot of patience to deal with them but that seems more like a cultural factor rather than the business itself. Probably the cheapest car rental in Iceland at this point.

I rented my car about a week in advance. Yes it wasn't the nicest car but it was so nice that they don't have all the extra hidden costs that other companies do and they only care about significant damage. Yes it was an older car but it worked perfect for me and I highly recommend them because they are half the price of everyone else.

Great Service, great car! Unfortunately our cigarette-lighter broke and we were not able to use our gps anymore but sadcars connected us with a garage on our way and we got it fixed (for free). Would recommend it to everyone

Did not realize their cancellation policy (which is probably my fault but 6mos?)
Not happy with their customer service. I paid for a vehicle for a visit in June 2017 a whole year in advance and over the last few months, I have become disabled (my lungs are hardening and right lung is not functioning) and I will be unable to visit as planned.
So, I sent an email to see about a refund. Now, like I said I payed a whole year in advance and am now asking for a refund 6months before the date, I was to arrive. They are going to charge me 25% to refund my money when they will have no problem renting the car out again with this much notice.
Due to my reason and beings they held my money for 6months and I canceled 6 months early, I think this is a shady business move that lacks any compassion. All other Companies do full refunds if cancelled at least 48hrs before pickup time.
