Exceptionally poor customer service by the male proprietor/manager. He is grey-haired, in his 70's, and will sit at your table uninvited. He will then engage in salacious conversation in an intimidating and condescending way. He is very demeaning towards women and seems to engage the younger ones.

You may have uninvited company at your table as the manager, owner may sit with you and engage in very inappropriate conversation.

Do not recommend. Waste of money based on the unpleasant experience. The rooms are noisy and customer service poor.

Awesome hotel with great staff! We were using it as a hub for our exploration of southeast Iceland, and really enjoyed every minute! Friendly staff, great breakfast, small but nice rooms On our last night, we saw the Northern Lights, from the parking lot of the hotel, which was indescribable! Would recommend to anyone.

Absolutely amazing. Truly one of the classiet places I have stayed. The whole staff from top to bottom is all about hospitality. You will be missing put on a wonderful experience if you pass this opportunity by. Eat here for sureInterestingly enough one of the best burgers I have ever eaten was here. However, the food is on the classy side. Hi brow or low, all delicious.

We did not stay at the hotel but spent a night there for my husband’s birthday with friends for drinks and dinner. Although a bit pricey, our best meal in Iceland was at Ranga. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was great and the service was fantastic. The cod was absolutely delicious. They also made an announcement while we were dining that the northern lights were slightly visible outside in case guests were interested in stepping out to see. Overall wonderful experience.

This is a truly excellent hotelvery comfortable, wonderful staff, delicious and hugely plentiful food (think my weight has increased dramatically!). We enjoyed the observatory with the very knowledgeable astronomer and we were very lucky to see the Northern Lights too. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole excursion and looking forward to doing it all over again.

This hotel is totally homophobic. They forced us out of the the hot tub at 11pm, even though they were doing nothing other than having wine and appreciating the northern lights. They are horrible people and I would never stay here again. We were being totally respectful.

We are staying here as part of a tour. The hotel is a pleasant surprise with nicely rustic rooms. A little quirky-we have chickens painted on the walls of our room. The restaurant is excellent for dinner and breakfast with great service.
The bathroom is large with a strange shower. It's in a jacuzzi tub with no curtain so water does tend to get around as you shower. No big deal though.

Shortly after this review we had dinner here. Had a 7:30 reservation and got promptly seated. Waitress took our order and that was it. An hour later a waiter brought our wives' dishes but not ours. He came back a few minutes later and said they lost the other two dishes. He took the first two dishes back to keep warm.
A half hour later we still didn't have our food and staff wouldn't even look at us. The owner came over and apologized for the "slight" delay. As a peace offering he brought smoked puffin
Now we're at two hours and no food. There's nowhere else to eat so we're trapped. Finally another half hour later we get our food and the manager offers whatever we want to drink.
The food is excellent but this was torture. It may be a glitch. But beware.

Our favorite hotel in Iceland (we stayed at 4). Rooms are spacious, the Jacuzzis are great, and the staff really goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The owner stopped by our table every night during dinner to see how we were. Want to go back already.

What a terrific experience. This is a quaint hotel in a gorgeous setting. Worth the extra money. The staff was so friendly, and the rooms were comfortable. The vibe of the hotel integrates flawlessly with the Iceland countryside.

Rustic (in appearance) hotel with great service. Wood accents most of the hotel with lovely views of the river and easy access from the main roads. The food at the restaurant is very good and the breakfast was very well appointed. Great spot to stay at.

Hotel Tanga was glorious. In an amazing setting overlooking the flat plains with snowcapped mountains in the distance. We stepped out of our room and could see down to a river. There were hot tubs for use, a delicious restaurant, great advice on tours and the nearby area and a really cosy upstairs lounge to have after dinner drinks in. I would love to return again. Thank you!

The room (honeymoon deal) was fantastic and the food in the restaurant was worth every penny. The outdoor hottubs are easily accessible for people in even numbered rooms as they are located at the back of the hotel (odd rooms look out to the front). However the odd rooms have the advantage that they are more likely to notice the northern lights as they are north facing. The staff were lovely and very attentive. The views over the river are very picturesque, especially in the winter with the low sun. Overall I'd love to go back and highly recommend.
