Absolutely beautiful. Very peaceful place to take a break and walk around. There are also picnic tables so a good place to stop and eat too. Rock formations are very cool and there’s a small loop to walk around and take in the nature and stillness. Not very touristy or crowded. There were 4-5 cars when we went.

This place is really easy to miss! But it’s a total gem in the middle of nowhere. Amazing basalt deposits and a refreshing view! Stop by if you can, it won’t take long

Relatively quiet little stop on the ring road. Get out of your car and go for a short walk to see some amazing basalt columns. Tour buses don't stop here. There is a waterfall across the street too.

A nice little place to stretch your legs or if you like geology. Kind of boring in comparison to other south coast stops and certainly not a destination.

Beautiful little place. Well worth the stop. Little bit of a walk but only like 2 minutes before you are there and a total of about 15-20 minutes if you take your time. Super unique and for anyone interested in geology this is well worth the stop.

Interesting little stop to spend 15 minutes. Has a picnic table too. Associated with a legend of underground mythical creatures. The basalt columns make for a nice photo stop. Also a good view of the Foss a Sidu waterfalls. Easy walk!

One of the most stunning rock formations in Iceland is Dverghamrar (The Dwarf Cliffs), some 10 km east of the Kirkjubæjarklaustur village. The cliffs are hexagonal columns of basalt, topped with cube-jointed basalt, shaped like a horseshoe. Inside the cliffs are home to both dwarfs and elves, according to folklore. But mind you, quite a number of Icelanders still believe it to be true and the rest can't prove it isn't. So, Dverghamrar is treated with great respect – just to be on the safe side. You never know what those superhuman beings are capable of doing.

You need to walk down to columns like a 3 minute walk. This was real neat and it seems many people drive right by it. Nice 10 minute stop and can get Foss a sidu in the back drop.

Awesome place right near the main road. There's a little path behind an unlocked iron door that leads straight to the basalt columns. If you position yourself just right you can take a picture of the columns and of the waterfall behind them.
