The rooms were pricey with fast WiFi, were easy to get to and parking was free. Floors were dirty, with sand / dirt on our hotel room floors and in the corners of the room upon arrival. The food was very poor quality, extremely pricey AND your options are limited nearby. Nice dining hall though, big but cozy and very lively! Also, we were told there wasn't a corking fee when we asked at the table so went back to the room to get the wine bottle for dinner, but was then told that they were mistaken, that the corking fee was $15 / or 1500 ISK. A minor thing, but if I were advising a friend, I'd tell them to look for a better spot.
The rooms are very nice and the food is great. We felt very welcome by everyone (despite our kids being more active than average)
Checked into our room tonight. Very clear and the restaurant had very good food. Big variety.
Really cute, quant and nice place to stay! Yummy breakfast and access to a hot tub!
The breakfast was great. I guess we get some newer building as the room look so new, spacious and very clean. The lobby was beautiful with Christmas decoration. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The area was beautiful and a good place to see aurora. The price is abit pricey.
This is a pretty large hotel seemingly used by a lot of coach trips. Our room was lovely and quiet but the dining experience both evening and morning left us disappointed. It effectively was a buffet option as all other options had gone. The buffet was cold (not meant to be) and hardly anything left although we were there with 1 hour left before last orders. The staff were very good in trying to resolve things for us and we were given a large discount for the food, which was fair.
It is a lovely setting and less than 5 mins drive to the east you are in dark territorygreat for the Northern lights.
Triple room was big for the price, clean, and the fact that there is a bar and a restaurant is a big plus! Geothermal hot tub is not very hot though 😭. I was really happy we stayed Staff was awesome!!
Totally amazing. Room was fantastic, staff friendly and a very relaxing atmosphere. We will most definitely be calling again to stay.
I really love this hotel. Everyone is really nice and i felt like home! I really want to stay here for ever!
Only 4 out 5 because of how expensive it was but we did need to book same-day due to an unforseen flood that closed The road to Hofn. The geothermal hot tub is a great spot to relax while gazing at the stars.
Hostel-ambiance with toxic buffet. If there was a lower rating than one star, this dump merits it. The only reason this place is probably still in business is because Vik is so interesting. Sincerely, the dinner buffet looked as though it were Christmas leftovers (and we were there in August). Three of the four staff members clearly preferred to be somewhere else, and one was out right rude (which was very surprising based on our experience with Icelanders generally - she would have been right at home in a NYC subway in August at rush hour). Final take away: walk away - no, run!
The hotel was pretty nice but not nice enough for the price. The room didn't have good amenities and there were a lot of issues with temperature and water. I could have skipped this one. On the other hand the food was good.
Fantastic hotel. Best breakfast we had during our trip. The room was great and the staff were super friendly.
So, Iceland is expensive, but you at least expect to get something out of the poke in the eye, but I didn't feel that way at Hotel Katla. It's basically a Cabin style rooms, nothing fancy, but still ran 2x the cost of my full apartment in downtown Reykjavik. The shower water temperature fluctuated drastically and constantly. Breakfast included, but it closed by 10AM and I didn't make it. The dinner buffet wasn't appealing at all (at around ~6200 ISK) so I drove into Vic for food. There is in-room wi-fi that worked fine. On the plus side the night manager/bar tender did serve me beer from 23:30 to 00:30 when nothing else was open in town.
Really impressed with this hotel, though it looked like a set of dormitories at first. The room was very quiet and comfortable and the TV had Netflix! The artwork was gorgeous. Breakfast was also nice with a big spread. It's a larger hotel, but still has a pleasant atmosphere.
Nice restaurant, pessimistic front desk staff, beautiful rooms, good restaurant. Fitness room good.
Fabulous hotel, and very understated. This is more of a complex, with several buildings laid out around the main reception, restaurant and hot tub area. The staff were friendly and welcoming and keen to ensure we were having a great time right from our arrival. We stayed in the new building that you pass on the way in, and it was very modern, spotless, and had all the usual features you would expect. The beds were comfy, and the heating an hot water were plentiful and very welcome on a cold day. The outdoor hot tub was great, and the outdoor changing facilities were very clean. The restaurant had a hearty buffet or simple snack menu, but the food was all of a very high standard. Well worth considering this hotel on your Iceland travels!
Very good hotel to stay while in Vik.
This was my second time staying here and we were lucky to get rooms in the brand-new front addition. The hotel has grown substantially in the past two years and is quite large. The new addition rooms were very spacious, large beds, plenty of room around them, a table suitable for work, a couple of seats to relax and read, sufficiently large bathrooms. However, I do remember that the rooms in the older buildings are not nearly as nice as the new ones.
The rooms also had radiant heaters, allowing you to dry clothing when needed (the area can be quite rainy in March).
Food was good, the new dinner buffet is very diverse and good, breakfast buffet is also nice (but could use some smoked fish).
Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are not cheap, almost 50% more expensive than something comparable in the US, but more in line with typical European hotels.
The one thing I was disappointed about is that the sauna didn't work at all and the hot tub isn't very hot and doesn't have jets, it's just a soaker tub with warm water.
Fairly large hotel right by the ring road 5km from Vik. Standard rooms are fine, large with comfy beds, tea/coffee, TV and shower. The water kept going hot/cold though, and you can hear noise from corridor and other rooms.
Stayed again the same week in the superior room which was nicer, great views on 2nd floor, bigger room which is brand new.
Breakfast is ok but it can be very busy with coach tours
Very clean and cozy!! Room 214 has spectacular views!! Restaurant looks great but their dinner/breakfast buffet needs improvement. Overall very nice and relaxing place to stay.
