Fantastic, strange, weird beach which was incredibly windy and wild. Parking is easy and there is a cafe there to take refuge. The balast rock columns are unusual and make a spectacular cave, coupled with the black sand it makes the beach look as though it is from another planet.

The famous black beach in the south of Iceland! Absolutely stunning! We went there during your road trip through Iceland! The beach is direct at route 1 you can't miss it! There is a big parking slot with a restaurant!

Take a walk at the beach and enjoy the silence and the incredible sound of the waves!

I really enjoyed it.

Such a unique place! It's still beautiful even during the winter. Of course the black sand was covered in snow a little bit, but the scenery still looks amazing. The only thing was, the wind was super strong when I was there and on the beach, it was quite a challenge to find things to hold on to. Loved the experience, anyway.

The black sand is unreal, the strange patterns in the cliffs amazing, the waves unrelenting and mesmerizing.

Felt like an other world experience (like many other places in Iceland)

Touristy but definitely a must see while in Iceland.

Did not see the puffins because it was winter when we visited, but did not miss them either :)

Beautiful, must-see beach in Iceland, but they are not joking about the waves. Be very careful getting too close because they will take you by surprise (and soak your boots, or worse)!

The black sand is what’s amazing about this beach. It’s black as coal and as fine as coffee grinds. We visited in January so it was also really neat to stand in snow on a beach.

Absolutely stunning.

I highly suggest anyone who visits Iceland to go there at least once. It's a great nature reserve, especially for photographers. Go there on sunset and you won't regret it.

Keep in mind that the waves in there are dangerous so make sure to keep a safe distance!

A beach unlike the ones you’re probably used to. It’s not brown sand like in the pacific nor white sand like in the Caribbean. It is black volcanic sand. The sneaker waves are very dangerous, have already claimed some lives, so be very alert and don’t turn you back to the water. As long as you’re careful it is a very beautiful place to see!

One of Iceland's must see destinations. It is especially magical after a snowfall where the black sand is contrasted with the white snow. The end here can be pretty dangerous so you need to use a bit of common sense.

If you are here to photograph the basalt columns, come early in the morning to avoid the tourists. I also recommend using a clear UV filter on your lens as the beach is extremely windy, and the sand will scratch up your lens.

Get here right as the sun comes up and you will have the beach all to yourself. It's dark beauty is truly something to behold. The black sand give the beach a strangely ominous feel like something from another world.

The black sand beaches and the basalt stacks are to die for. We didn't have the best weather (rainy and windy), but it was still worth it. The black sand blew my mind. And the stacks are unique to the area- don't skip this beach!

Beautiful black beach, it's really big and the cliffs are amazing, we saw lots of cute puffins there! Don't forget to pay for the parking, the machine is hidden next to the coffee shop. The road to the beach is good.

Careful with the tides. When the waves came crashing, someone fell when the rapid, cold water was receding. Otherwise, the beach is beautiful. The two caves and the basalt columns looked amazing.

This black beach is amazing but I have to be rude a bit "don't be stupid, stupid" DO NOT GO CLOSE TO THE WATER!!!!! Ocean waves are massive, stunning, and ruthless, they kill. Enjoy them from a far.

We enjoyed just walking on the black beach more than the vertical rock formation. The black sand is beautiful we took great black white photos here. Black sand, ocean pounding on the beach sun on your face. Iceland is beautiful!

We visited the beach while on the south of Iceland tour. I have been on black beaches before, but this is the most interesting one. As well as the black sand, there are rock formations and caves which are very unique. It was very windy during our visit, and it was almost hard to stand upright! The wind and rain made it hard to see what I was looking at, but the photos I took definately helped.

Not really sure "Sand" is the correct word, it's a stack of little small pebbles that look like sand. there super smooth. Also there's a really cool rock formation as you enter the beach. Hexagonal cleavage (for those geo's reading this) great fun to climb ;)

Beautiful!! A must if traveling the ring road or south Iceland! I recommend hitting both sides. If coming from Reykjavik there is a turn off route 1 to the main tourist attraction of the beach. Then when leaving, continue to Vik and find parking for a better, less crowded view. I was there in February and it was VERY windy but spectacular.
