A very fine example of another Franciscan ruin in Connacht. Like Claregalway it has a tower that seems a little out of proportion to its general aspect. The result is quite amazing

Well worth stopping by to see. The little stream by the friary marks the border between Galway and Mayo

Really interesting old ruins. Didn't have enough time to explore the whole thing, but it's amazing how well preserved it is considering how long it's been vacant.

Fascinating ruins of a Franciscan friary (1351-1753). Biggest of its kind in Ireland. Definitely worth checking out! Only pity is that the tower isn't accessible

Wonderful surprise.found this place by chance just driving around looking for old churches and cemeteries. Definitely worth the drive and spending at least an hour or two here. Beautiful location as well. Lots of history about this place online.

This was one of my favorite ruins that I went to in Ireland. It is very beautiful and you can still use some of the stairs unlike other ruins where they block off their stairs. Also, it was founded in 1531! So cool.

My wife and I were here April 2016. We had the whole place to ourselves and was greeted by a local man out for a walk who gave us the history of the place. A wonderful place to spend a few hours wandering around and photographing it.

This is a great ruin to tour. It's quiet and not a lot of people and it's BIG. No tour busses can get in here so cars onky so thats why it's so quiet. If you have a chance check this one out

Off the beaten path but very different than the other ruins and castles. There are no staff, admission fee nor advertising of the site. Located way out in farm land gives one a secluded; almost spooky feeling. I went at about 2pm on a Monday and no one else was there. Added to the vibe.
