In the center of kowloon life, convenient but restaurants very expensive. Very easy to find dinner places outside.
If you don't plan on spending any time in your room and you are extremely low maintenance then you may want to consider this hotel. For everyone else, you should look elsewhere.
Originally, I was going to label this hotel with one word -- DUMP. However, there are positive elements of this establishment that raised the rating to two stars.
Pros:
-- Location is central to shopping malls and street markets as well as many food establishments that are within walking distance. Very lively atmosphere throughout the day and in the evening for those who enjoy the activity.
-- We found the service to be very good. When we saw the maid while leaving our room, she asked what we would like for her to accomplish when she cleaned the room, then she did exactly as we asked later that day. When calling for towels or extra shampoo, someone showed up at our door within minutes with our request. The doorman and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
-- Water pressure in the shower was strong and there were no issues with getting hot water for a long shower.
-- WiFi is free and the network is open so you don't need a password to use it. It was also better than adequate for online searches and busy web pages. I used it for a little on-line gaming before sleep and it was adequate for the cause.
-- The hotel provides one power adapter.
Cons:
-- The room smelled. It would seem that the carpets had some sort of moldy smell to them, but it could have also been the curtain. The smell made you think twice about walking on the carpet with your bare feet.
-- The bathroom has no power outlets to use for your hair dryer, curling iron, shaver, cordless toothbrush, etc If you want to use these items, you need to go to the foot of the bed, next to the TV, and plug in to the desk/vanity which is inconvenient.
-- Speaking of power, the only place that you will find power outlets is at the vanity. If you use a CPAP machine, use your computer or phone while charging, etc.., you have to run the cables across the room and they may not reach, depending on what your requirements are. I used power strips which added 3 feet and then plugged into those. Seriously, no power next to the bed?!?!
-- The shower curtain was moldy and smelled up the bathroom shower. This could have been easily rectified by complaining, but the hotel's quality control should have taken care of this before we checked in.
-- This is both a pro and a con, but I've listed it in the con section because of the lack of logic involved with the setup. Half the lights can be turned off or on from the comfort of the bed (at the night stand). The other half are on the other side of the bed (at the night stand). The con is that you have to go from one night stand to the other to turn off all of the lights. The pro is that you can turn the lights on and off from your bed.
Summary:
Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. There are plenty of other hotels in the general area to try and this one would not be on my list as a place I'd like to come back to.
While it's true that every hotel has negative traits, the oddity of having all power outlets located in one spot, along with the smell of the room and the bathroom, are too much to overcome and prevent my recommendation.
The location is perfect. There are lots of shopping centers near it. But the room is a little bit small. The service is good.
Rooms okay if you get an upper floor room (above 7th floor) as renovations are slowly happening from the top down. It's a fair size for Hong Kong. Mind you, it's a small cosmetic Reno to replace peeling wallpaper, etc. Service was poor. Of the 3 counter staff we dealt with on various occasions, only 1 young man was polite, or even civil. They are more concerned about getting you out than anything else. Rooms not cleaned well - used cups still left there and coffee not refilled, etc. Don't even think about asking for late check out. Location is what you pay for. Small market close by, lots of mediocre food options, close to MTR stations (1 min walk) and shopping.
I had stayed at GDH last year and the experience was very good. But this year the experience has been very average. They shut flush water for a few hours on the day I checked in. Then there was a power shut down due to some checking procedure for one whole night. They said it was a mandatory shut down, but they shouldn't have taken any bookings for that night. Elevators stopped working and the guests including me had to climb the stairs to go to their rooms. The tap in the wash basin is so powerful, that the water is spilling out. I complained about it and nothing has been done. Even the complimentary bottles of water are not replaced sometimes. Very Disappointed..
Place is in great range of everything and especially the subway. Really good hotel service.
The room that we get is not the same as the picture in the net. Its smaller and its said newly renovated. They did not renovate everything. Only some parts of the room. The room still looks old and gloomy.
We booked through agoda and when we are to check out they charged us a different amount from what we booked from agoda's site. Very disappointing.
Good location. Near subway station. Room is ok. Service is ok. will satisfy your need of a place to crash after tiring day of going around the city.
Not more good toilet not good
Nice location but rooms are not as per showing on internet and the reception staff are not well trained
Good value for money. The complimentary breakfast was so so. A bit overpriced for 150 hkd
Very small room.. Only book if you get it at reasonable price.. Best part is lot of Indian restaurants nearby..
Good place stay in Hongkong and heart of the market.
Not too expensive; Very good location.
It's OK clean central good for budgeted family
great hotel with good room service and adequate rooms , located near all major spots and mtr lines
Good stay option in and around TST station, lot of restaurants around & 10 min walk to Promenade, Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong Science, History Museums and dozen other must visit places in Hong Kong.
Customer service is so terrible. Book a double bed room ,give you a twin bed room, told you the double bed room sold out !? hello, do you understand what is reservation mean??????
My fave hotel when in hong kong located at Tsim sha tsui
Very fast free WiFi. Good location and convenient access to a lot of F&B outlets in TST area.
Friendly staff, good enough accomodations. Rooms are a bit dated but nice. Free wifi. You won't spend much time in the room when in Hong Kong anyway hahaha
