  Spectacular retreat/resort. The staff treat you like family. The food is fantastic. The rooms are spacious, clean and unique. Highly recommended.

  Villa Sumaya was a lovely surprise. I was there for a yoga retreat with a small group of Canada. To keep it short - the food was vegetarian (with the option of fish or chicken) and was delicious (and I am fussy). Extremely clean, natural and lush gardens and elegantly quaint. We had a balcony with 2 muskoka chairs looking across Lake Atitlan viewing the volcanoes which is a view you will never tire of. The shop had beautifully handmade local items at very reasonable prices. It was the perfect spot for a yoga retreat.

  My personal retreat with Robert was beyond all my expectations! While I’ve had massages all over the world, Robert is the most gifted healer I’ve ever met. He’s a true professional- he connected with me, boiled down my goals and stayed focused on them each day. His breathing techniques are amazing and I’ve been able to incorporate them into my daily life as an energizing meditation. Alternating between massage and Chi Gong (stretching/dancing/martial art) created the perfect balance for my days at Villa Sumaya. ~ Michelle S.

  I've led women's retreats in Mexico, Costa Rica, Bali, Iceland and the U.S. - and Villa Sumaya is my favorite place to come. The serenity of being nestled in the trees overlooking a pristine lake combined with exquisite food, stellar service, artistic and comfortable rooms, divine yoga and meditation rooms, hikes to a neighboring pueblo, and the amazing VIEW every single day make it by far the best place I've ever been for retreat. I'm also planning to go back for a quiet romantic getaway!

  Beautiful place on the lake!
  If you are looking for a quaint place with beautiful gardens and a very relaxing atmosphere, this is the place. I loved the staff and all of the great services they offer. You must get Krystalyn to teach you some yoga. The food was all vegetarian which was a total perk!

  It was an amazing experience!!! Reentry to the real world has not been easy after a week in this paradise. The accommodations were just lovely and so clean. Views amazing, staff warm and welcoming and so helpful and food was sooooooo amazing. In fact I ordered a copy of the cookbook. Massages and healing the best! It was also fun to visit some of the surrounding villages which they so aptly arranged for us. Wendy is truly an incredible woman and Role Model for the world. I look forward to visiting again.   An amazing experience! The food was healthy and truly fantastic, the staff were super accomodating and the atmoshpere was blissfull and peaceful. So worth the trip!

  Incredible retreat space with breathtaking views of the lake from pretty much everywhere you go. Delicious, healthy foodgorgeous surroundingsfriendly, professional staff. Absolutely wonderful!

  Adore this incredible retreat space on the most beautiful lake in the world! The rooms are delux the food is outstanding, the staff are incredible and the setting is guaranteed to satisfy everyone. This is a world-class destination for hosting retreats! Honoured to get to bring my events here.

  I joined Aimee Hansen's Storyteller Within women's retreat in November and fell in love with the retreat property. The welcome was gracious, the buffet was fresh and colourful, the rooms were lovingly appointed and the attention to the smallest details were never overlooked. I adored the warm tub for a mid day soak in the shade from the hot sun, the cozy nooks allowed for private introspection, while the common areas invited new friendships. The staff is absolutely delightful!
  
  I have travelled extensively for yoga retreats and both Aimee's Storyteller Within and Villa Sumaya are currently holding the #1 spot in my opinion!

  We are a family of yoga teachers and we lead retreats around the world. This is our favorite retreat site anywhere in the world! We choose our sites carefully based on luxury accommodations, charm, cultural connections, places built on sacred ground, and high quality studios. Villa Sumaya has everything we love. Our upcoming retreat to Guatemala filled with 23 people in one week-end! We absolutely love this location. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for the opportunity to take people away from their every day life and sink into this paradise setting for rest, renewal, and yoga.

  The word “paradise” is thrown around a lot when it comes to retreat centers. In the case of Villa Sumaya, there’s just no other word to describe it. Every single detail of this beautiful sanctuary has been given careful, loving thought: from the plush guest rooms to the pristine yoga shalas, from the warm dining area to every stone along the flowering paths that wind around the property. The view from the center of the lake is absolutely breathtaking, and you can feel that the whole sanctuary is enveloped by a powerfully loving and compassionate energy. The staff are unbelievably kind and genuine. The vegetarian food is exquisite. The owner Wendy is a remarkable soul who constantly pours all of herself into ensuring that the spiritual medicine of this sanctuary is accessible to everyone who visits. I cannot recommend Villa Sumaya highly enough, and I can't wait to return.

  From a neighbor….
  
  Living next door to a yoga retreat has its advantages. I have been here for about three years, and feel lucky to have Villa Sumaya as a neighbor. Villa Sumaya provides a nice sense of community in this diversified ethnic and isolated part of the world.
  
  AND, the meals are great !
  The food good and healthy, and everybody always seems to be smiling.
  
  Lake Atitlan instills a feeling of peace and tranquility, and the guests who come to Villa Sumaya sometimes go for a walk by my beach, usually with a contented look on their faces.
  
  Wendy does a lot to include the entire lakeside community. She's been here for about 25 years, and she understands and works with the culture here.
  There are community functions Villa Sumaya, that help bring us all together.
  
  A magical spot.
