Fantastic location in downtown Munich, perfect for walking around Marienplatz or going to Hofbrauhouse. Rooms were small and plain, nothing interesting or really attractive in the design. Single beds (shocking for anyone who is from North America)! Several complimentary items in the fridge, including non-alcoholic drinks and snacks and one drink from the bar. The room had a nespresso machine and the fridge is a nice bonus (very rare in Germany). Overall, I was satisfied with my stay but it is really overpriced (the price must be based on the location).

Torbräu is in the absolute perfect location. It's just steps to Hofbrauhaus and Marienplatz (and Marienplatz U-bahn stop), allowing you to see most of the key Munich sites with just a short walk. The price was reasonable and included a top-notch breakfast buffet among other included perks. Rooms were fine- nothing exceptional- but it is over 500 years old so it gets a pass. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating and we had the nicest and funniest servers at Schapeau. The history of Hotel Torbräu is incredible and worth a visit.

The rooms are large enough, very comfortable and splendidly kept. All staff were very friendly and spoke outstanding English. The breakfast is delicious - try the fruit curd!

If you like to enjoy a good brunch with music, this is the place to go. Although you pay the highest price for a brunch in Munich you will receive good quality, enough for everyone and a relaxing atmosphere.
I would still say that they have the best brunch in town, although when we went a couple of years back, the variety was a bit better.response / report this review -

My wife and I stayed for two nights, 27 & 28 March 2017. It was an absolute amazing stay.
We checked in late afternoon. Ahmed checked us in and he was fantastic. Check-in was fast with no problems. We had a couple of tourist questions and Ahmed knew the answers and was able to pinpoint locations on map with no problem at all. We had a car and were able to park it right next to the hotel for two days.
We stayed in room 420. It was well decorated, very clean, comfortable bed, coffee machine, mini bar, TV. We had a good view of the Isartor city gate and street below. The room and bathroom is fitted with good fittings and shower is very nice. The entire room was immaculately clean on arrival and again when we returned the following day after being out. The windows are double glazed and we didn't hear anything from outside. We also didn't hear any noise inside the hotel. We slept well both night.
The breakfast was very nice and restaurant staff excellent.
It is a credit to all the staff that this is a very high class hotel. It has a lot of history and the staff seem very happy to work there. All the staff are friendly. Checkout was fast. We recommend this hotel when visiting Munich and especially if you want to stay close to the Old Town. Thank you to all the staff for our really enjoyable stay.response / report this review -

I wanted a hotel that I could step out of, and immediately be in the Old City with winding cobblestone paths. The Hotel Torbrau hits the mark. It is the oldest hotel in Munich, and it is updated with modern amenities.
The English-speaking staff was cheerful and helpful in many ways. We had a superior room (larger) on the street, and the loud pizza bar across the street was playing deafening music. The hotel agreeably moved us to an inner courtyard room. We got our quiet night's sleep. Also, the windows open and you can get fresh air.
The bathroom had a quirk -- the noisy ventilation fan that wouldn't turn off for 10 minutes and had no separate switch. We used the bathroom without turning on the light as a result.
The breakfast is awesomely good. Every day I had an omelet, two coffeepots, delicious choices in bread, salmon, yogurt, nuts, fruit, meat, cheese and more. I would relax and read the New York Times until 10:30 am. We had huge breakfasts and skipped lunch.
The location can't be beat:
● It's right at the Isartor stop on the S-bahn. We took the train directly from the airport. The Marienplatz U-bahn is a short walk, and the hotel sells tickets at cost.
● Across the street is a bakery, and a salad/sandwich shop. The Rewe grocery store is 1 block up the street.
● There are many excellent restaurants within a walk -- Spatenhaus, the Ratskeller, and Rischart for Kaffe and Kuchen. Also, the hotel restaurant Schapeau is delightful, and we had Wiener Schnitzel there on our last night.
● Many churches, museums and historic sights are in the neighborhood. The Viktualienmarkt farmer's market is a short walk as is the iconic Frauenkirche. We walked to the city Stadtmuseum exhibit "Typically Munich" and saw the treasure room at the Residenz.
If you're looking for a hotel with charm, convenience and attentive staff located inside the former walled city, Hotel Torbrau is a great choice.response / report this review -

Old 500 year hotel but incredible location, classic German style furniture in good order and fabulous breakfast spread, make up for small slow elevator and lack of modern mega hotel facilities.
