Everything about this hotel is very fine, if expensive enough. The bedrooms are faultless. Check-in was too long and involved, with unnecessary paperwork, and if you arrive by car the very restricted street space can be an insuperable problem, until a doorman turns up. Once or twice, they didn't. But once checked in, it was a very good place to stay. Sincerely high class.
Beautiful hotel, steps away from the cathedral. Service was excellent all around. Breakfast was delicious, as was the three course dinner we had in the French restaurant. Definitely recommend.
Exceptionally good Hotel with even better service personnel. This is also presented in their price. The Breakfast is very good! However, if you don't dress up or look wealthy they will check secretly whether you are really a guest in their house (which makes sense). But it makes for a strange feeling when you just want to go back to your room after a long city walk.
Good hotel with great service. Located right in the middle and next to the Dom. Couple of restaurant options, you might have to reserve in advance though. The rooms are a mix of modern and old school so might depend on what you get! Overall a good place.
Great, very classic hotel close to the railway station and the dome. The rooms are renovatednot the kind of style that I like but it matches with the atmosphere of the hotel.
Very nice and professional staff. Good breakfast.
A great hotel. Super fancy. More fancy then I'm used to. Deluxe room is massive and the whole hotels theme is really cool. Everyone being nice is a bonus, and of course, the breakfast and other foods were delicious. Not sure I could warrant or recommend a stay with my personal money (£££££), but it is a prime destination for business events and stays.
Amazing hotel and friendly staff. I had a change in plan on my trip and found this hotel available on a last minute notice. Right away on arrival the hotel starts treating guests every need. Recommending food, sights, history, shopping, and any other need.
The room was outstanding. Very spacious and clean. Given all the rooms on our trip had been tiny, this was a very nice change. We ordered room service for a late dinner and the food was very good and quickly delivered.
The hotel is right across the street from the Cologne Cathedral and a very short walk to shopping and lots of local attractions.
We also happened to show up for the Karnival celebration which made for a lot of fun sights.
I recently had the pleasure to spend a night at Excelsior Hotel Ernst with my girlfriend. I can only recommend this 5* hotel. It is one of the best-located and impressive hotels in the city of Cologne. The Excelsior is like an oasis in the middle of the Cologne concrete jungle. The staff is outstandingly forthcoming, the high tea we attended had an incredible selection of teas from all over the world and pastries fresh from Paris with beautiful live piano music, and the amenities were superb. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a freshly renovated Super Deluxe room, which was very spacious, modern and classy. Our stay also included breakfast, which combines a-la-carte items with a large buffet. All in all a fantastic, luxurious stay that exceeded our expectations. 5* rating for a true 5* luxury experience.
We visited Cologne for a long weekend to visit the city´s famous Christmas markets. The hotel is located directly across from the Dom cathedral and entrance to one of the six markets in the city and we loved the convenience of it.
Our room was spacious, even with a rollaway bed in it. The bathroom was also quite large, particularly by European standards. The staff was always courteous and helpful. The breakfast was lovely and contained lots of options to get ready for a full day of sightseeing. The wifi was excellent and we appreciated all of the closet space for storing suitcases out of the way. Also, the carpet could use a good cleaning. But overall we were very pleased with the amenities and lovely decor.
I would highly recommend this hotel to families touring Cologne at any time of year, but especially during the Christmas markets since all of them are easily within walking distance.
Review of the Excelsior Hotel, Cologne.
A very excellent hotel. Everything that one relies on when staying at a five star hotel, and more. Beautiful room with full amenities that is designed for comfort and convenience, but remains polished and plush.
Lady who checked us in was warm and friendly, and brought us up to the room to show us all its features. We felt she was open and honest, yet professional and efficient, and we truly appreciate her efforts and the sweetness of her personality.
Concierge was friendly and efficient, always honouring us by remembering who we were, making us feel welcome.
When the TV went wonky, someone came up to see to it. Although she could not fix the TV, she was knowledgeable about how the TV programming works, was apologetic and quickly offered to see if she can find us another room. Yet another personable and lovely member of the staff. Since she was in our room, we took the opportunity to ask her for a recommendation of a restaurant. The recommendation was followed up with her making the reservation for us, and with concierge providing us with very clear directions to the venue, and even giving us tips on what we might find interesting on the menu. We ended up having a superb evening because of where we were sent.
We cannot be more appreciative of all that the people at the hotel is and has been to us.
Will definitely highly recommend this hotel, and will surely come back to it should we ever be in Cologne again.
