Gorgeous place with a gorgeous beach, lots of cool boats docking all the time. Great bar, awesome restaurant, what more can you ask for in a hotel?

The resort is beautiful, very beautiful. And the staff is very friendly. But that's all I can give this place. We booked a partial ocean view King room, but all we could see from our balcony were a huge amount palm trees that completely blocked any view of the ocean. The front desk said "the trees are still young, but when they grow taller they won't block the view".ok, how does that make this a partial ocean view then? Our AC didn't work for an entire night which was MISERABLE and exhausting, so we missed our hiking adventure the next day because we were too tired. Our cable also went out for an entire night. We were told it would be working "in a few minutes" but still wasn't working when we woke up the next morning. Those things were all annoying, but my biggest issue with this hotel is the fact that you are essentially hostage because it's SO far away from everything else on the island, and they take complete advantage of that by charging astronomical prices for food and beverage ($12 for a weak pins colada? C'mon) and they actually charge you $20 per hour to rent a kayak! $20 to rent snorkel gear for the day. Who knows what they charge for golf! The only complimentary activities are the ones on their daily schedule, which are pretty lame. Power walking? The "mountain bike tour" at 8am was not mountain biking. It was riding roughly maintained mountain bikes on the paved sidewalks around the property. Strenuous due to the hills and lack of air in the tires, but definitely not mountain biking. The Splash bar restaurant serves previously frozen fish tacos and burgers for $15-$20, yuck. The Medi buffet breakfast is very good, but it better be for $20 per person plus 16% service charge (which they charge for ever single item you purchase at the resort even though custom tipping in Curaçao is around 10% if anything at all, but most places don't expect any tipping). Overall, this place is a giant rip off. It's beautiful and nice if you want to stay at the resort for your entire trip, pay a ton of money for weak drinks and low quality food, and not explore the island at all. But if you like to really see the places you visit and eat local food for good prices, stay somewhere else. We had a rental car and it took FOREVER to get anywhere on the island from the resort because (1) it's so far out and (2) there is construction detours everywhere! So give yourself double the time google maps says it will take you to get there. One thing additional, don't buy the Curaloe products at the resort, they are literally double the price of what they sell for at the Curaloe plantation. I was super sunburned and needed relief at 10pm, once again held hostage by this resort I had to pay $40 for a travel size pack of aloe products. Went to the plantation the next day and found the same pack for $20. I was livid to say the least. But that's the type of thing that will happen to you at this resort. So beware if you don't have deep pockets!

Overall amazing experience. In summary if you want quality, relaxation, and great food, you'll love it here. If you want party type of atmosphere, want to be near downtown, this is not the ideal place for you. In terms of each area, the details are:

Service: everyone in this resort works VERY hard and does it with a smile. I've been to many all-inclusive chains in Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica (3.5-5 star range) and by far the kindest, hardest working, and yet most humble are the ones I met here. The staff actually get to know you, remember you, and do everything with a genuine smile.

Check in/out: was a bit slow if you came with a group i.e. sunwing..they need to get more people to help with large group check-ins.

Food/All inclusive or not** - this was a big point for many reviews. All inclusive option cost my wife and I roughly $600'sh extra (canadian) vs breakfast only. WIth the all inclusive, we definitely saved money as everything is in USD and at time of writing, the Cad was 0.7 of usd. An alcoholic beverage will cost you $10usd roughly, pop about $4usd, meals around 20-30usd. Overall this would have cost roughly $100usd for an average person, so you can see why with the canadian currency, it's worth the all inclusive option and avoid the headache of penny pinching while you're trying to relax. The food was great, with variety at the buffet each day, and it tasted like a home cooked meal, not mass produced like other resorts I've been to. The shore restaurant was good (not mind blowing), but the view and service made it even better (see separate review). The drinks included on the all inclusive are great (beers restricted to amstel and another beer, and house wines, and huge variety of mix cocktails, smoothies).

Room: were very comfortable and clean, with good water pressure. The only negative was that the cleaning service took a long time, sometimes our room were not touched until 5'sh pm when we often wanted to go back to the room, or sometimes our room was missed and we had to tell the cleaning ladies to come back. I think this is an area that was understaffed.

Beach: the swimming area is 'locked in' behind a floating walkway where small boats can dock (not many boats there). This was great to keep waves almost non existent and made swimming easier/relaxing, but if you want the experience of having a large open ocean in front of you, then you had to go elsewhere nearby which is unfortunately rocky not sandy. See photos posted to get an idea. There will be many neat animals near the beach including iguanas that you can feed fruit (on your own or with the activities guide), many colourful birds.

Golf/Resort: we didn't golf but it sure looked like a beautiful course. There's many hiking and running trails. Take the meditation trail hike as it's very beautiful - you'll need comfortable but good grip shoes. The trail is hard to find and better signs are needed to show you how to get to the trail, otherwise go with the swimming pool instructor at 9 am. To get to the trail, exit the front lobby, go up towards the stair case that says 'tennis courts', then turn right onto road and keep following the road past the tennis courts, keep going until you see a little hut/house with a car gate on your left hand (about 1 min walk from the tennis courts). Turn left to go past the gate and walk another minute and on your right hand side will be a pebbly trail - walk another minute up the trail and you'll see a sign saying meditation trail!

City: to get to willemstad - you can ask the concierge desk regarding the city shuttle bus which is $22 usd roundtrip per person, and leaves roughly 930 am and comes back at 330 - which is plenty of time to explore the city.

Arrived on a Wednesday for a few days of unwinding, couldn't have picked a better location for it.
I had read that it was 5 kilometers from the front gate, but really didn't expect it to be that secluded.

The place is huge and while it's not the Ritz, it was well worth the price paid.
The room was comfortable and decently appointed, with ocean and bay views from the balcony.

The food while not 5 star quality was overall above average, the fish tacos at splash are a must.

The lagoon was great for doing laps, snorkeling or just wading and a bit quieter than the pool area.
With a golf course, water sports, tennis, hiking and running trails there's plenty to do without leaving the resort.

If you prefer to explore, Kalki beach in the north is definitely worth the drive and Otra Banda has a few cool places to eat and hangout.

The resort staff was friendly and generally helpful.
The Island's citizens and it's guests are a wonderful melange, so if you like diversity, you'll enjoy the people you run into on Curacao.

We visited quite a bit of the Island and saw a number of hotels, none came close the Santa Barbara beach resort. While we experienced a lot of the Island, we were always happy to drive back to the resort.
